  1. Rocky Saga is the series of films that have special place in my heart. They are a bit cheesy especially when you watch them today, but they lunched the career of Stallone and gave birth to amazing music themes that are still fresh today. It’s fun to watch how USSR was portrayed in Rocky IV or how cartoonish Clubber Lang looks from the perspective of time. It was series that developed and used steady cam for the first time, as well as introduced Dolph Lundgren to the masses.

This set was my first contact with this CMArt. I needed and upgrade from DVD to Blu-ray in my collection and this compact set was the best to go. Very nice slip, with spot gloss and amazing art for the lenticular bought my attention. I am not the fan of the back of the slip, but

WWA steelbook, that in my opinion was lazy attempt to take money from the collectors but it’s the decision of Fox about the look of the steelbook so it’s hard to complain. I just have a feeling that it lacks the film vibe with white background, they could have used one of the amaray releases arts that were fantastic or come up with something totally new.

Thanks to this edition we don’t need to focus only on steelbook, as we have amazing 80 pages booklet with yellow cover very similar to the book released by Taschen back in 2019. Heavy and loaded with a lot of production info & photos look very impressive in hand. In addition to that 6 postcards that are amazing, and some of them I have seen for the first time.

Cine-Museum have done very good job with this box, but for those who pre-ordered it (so probably everyone as it was sold out) they as always prepared special gift. This time it’s amazing golden glove necklace that appears in the series in nice grey pocket bag. It’s not golden necklace, but its well made and what’s important for me can be kept inside of the steelbook. I really hate when retailers give parts of the edition that are made to be…outside of the edition.

Marvelous set, hope you will like it.

In Germany it's really hard to get Autographs anyways. Only at really expensive conventions, and these are so overrun, and the autographs also cost money (and quite something), that it's not fun for me to get those. If it was possible I'd totally get you; I've got a couple of autographs on CDs and Vinyl, but it's again more the meeting of a star and talking to him for a few short minutes - the autograph is just the "souvenir"and reminder of that meeting. On the other hand I also love my editions as original as they were, so maybe it's better this way (I always start crying when I see some German collectors tossing out the original discs of an Edition they import and replacing it with the disc from the German Amaray).

Still, in general I am with you on the Fullslip > Lenticular - if, and only if, the Fullslip has some beautiful finish. There are a couple of Fullslips that are just boring, and in that case, a beautiful Leticular could be even nicer.  Two examples that come right to my mind: FAC Vaiana and FAC Zootopia. The Fullslips absolutely boring. Not anything special as artwork, just a scene of the film itself, no partial gloss, no shiny parts, no embossing, nothing. Same with unbroken, only the title is glossy, and that's it. Thats rather dull, and probably, for these cases a beautiful 3D popout effect that is well executed (we are talking quality of MantaLab, NovaMedia, etc.) would have worked much better.

On the other hand, what I used to like about Filmarena was their lenticular magnet - and I think it's a shame that no one else is doing these - e.g. I got both Deathpool Releases from Mantalab, but I would be totally fine with the Fullslip + the lenticular magnet for the Steelbook. That to me, is the best you could do, and only Filmarena is doing it - unfortunately, because the first 80 or so releases, the Lenticulars were ass-ugly, and since then they've actually figured out how to do it correctly but now it seems they are rolling dices on this: half of their lenticulars are really beautiful, the other half is garbage. That's really frustrating. Especially as you cannot really choose freely anymore, because of the "one gets the UHD, the other the 3D". I'm so not digging that, lately :(

Whaaaaat? Germany is the best place apart from UK where you can get autographs (!!!)

First of all, comic cons...ok, some are expensive some not. I am from time to time on those. Not all of them but 30% - mainly Dortmund & Berlin...but Berlin only when it's worth it. I prefer to get one aoutgraph of someone who is important for me, but pass on some of the steelbooks;))) Second thing, there are a lot of premiere/events where stars attend. So...i am frequently in Germany to have signatures:)))) Generaly i travel the world to meet my beloved stars. Recently i made a clip how i went to comic con but in UK - in Liverpool. I was to meet Elijah Wood & Mickey Rourke...but the second one didnt come. It was starting point for Covid in Europe...so things were changing rapidly.

Wow @Movie_Shelter, thank you so much for sharing this.

I have a strange starting with MantaLab myself. I've heard from them right from the beginning, and (hold your hats), I was like: Well yet another Fullslip supplier doing what all these MB suppliers do. Well, given that - afaik - no one else did MoS at that time, it wasn't really true. But judging from the pictures I did not like the edition too much, and then the second release being Deadpool (like no one did that before?) I was, once more not interested. Also, you need to know, during that time I still wasn't fan of Lenticulars - I just knew the German lenticulars you get with 3D releases, plus those of Filmarena, and I always thought these things made these editions more ugly then beautiful. Also: I did not see MoS before - I am actually not a big fan of Superman, and I thought Man of Steel had a silly ring to it. So I wasn't interested in the movie either. Deadpool was another thing, entirely, yes. However, given that I didn't think much of the lenticular, and the Fullslip looked like every other Fullslip, I was totally content with my E3 Filmarena release, plus the German hardbox, that looks like the Comicon VHS. This just changed, when people got the lenticular and showed it of on YouTube - after that, I was a bit angry at myself for not getting it, because the 3D effect really looks absolutely stunning.

My first order however, I placed for The Revenant, for the leather fullslip. That was an excellent crazy idea, and I was so for this, I really loved it, even though - again - I also got both versions from Filmarena, I had to have that leather fullslip. Funny thing, MantaLab did just a restock of their former products, so while I was getting the leather fullslip, there was a special offer on getting both Fullslips of the previous two releases (Deadpool and MoS).

Now in 2016 BvS came to the cinemas, and just the day before going to see it, I borrowed a copy of MoS, because I didn't know how much it would depend on this one, and I wanted to see it. Now, you might know, while I am not so fond of Superman, I am a total Batman fan. BvS was a must see, and I didn't want to go into a Batman movie and not understand everything because I missed out on the first movie, even though the first one was a pure Superman movie. I watched it the night before, and I was so excited, that I watched it the next evening once more, before going to see BvS. I was blown away by the beauty and the style of the movie (Zack Snyder is a real artist!) and after that, I eally wanted to own a premium copy of MoS. So, it was a no-brainer to add those two (because than I even got a discount), to my The Revenant order.

To this day, I would argue, that even if The Revenant has the best Fullslip of all time, Man of Steel is actually the overall most beautiful release they did. It fits the movie absolutely perfectly, and I love the steelbook, it's really beautiful, perfect execution, and even though I normally don't like this large holographic application (I'd rather have it partially applied), this one somehow fits perfectly.

So yeah, even from me, very much love and appreciation for this first release of MantaLab (plus I could also track down their second, Quaterslip Deadpool release, and that lenticular is also just stunning and mindblowing. ML does great lenticulars, but also great work on Fullslips, so it is really hard deciding which to get).

I perfectly know what you are saying. My story whent other side - MoS release was exceent so i bought their next Deadpool even though i had filmarena Hardbox on the way.  Than Revenant, but i reduced film arena version instead. To this day, FA version of Revenant is steal sealed.

In case of Lenticulars....i was always Full Slip guy and only HDZeta changed it a bit with theirs Terminator releases, when i loved their lentis. Overall, now the market has so much changed that i don't know what i prefere. I think still Full Slips, due to the fact that i can put an autograph on them;)

  5. Man of Steel was packed in many interesting editions after it was released. The most popular was metal tin with Superman logo, but it had its flaws, mainly connected to opening of plastic cover, but on display it was amazing. In this video I would like to focus on one gem, that was one of the best premium editions on the market from my point of view. Later on it was re-released by HD Zeta, but that is another story. This particular edition was strong debut of Manta Lab, retailer from Hong Kong that on that time was unknow to collectors community. It was theirs first release that shook collectors and divided them in the end. It was beautiful release on the paper and the one to go for every blu-ray addict, however when it was released there was much discussion about holographic foil abuse.

In my opinion it was good idea, especially when it comes to the front art, that is little bit blurry from the start and this effect adds little bit of extra to the whole picture. It was also repeated by Film Arena with “In the Heart of the Sea” [you can find this edition here -  https://movieshelter.blogspot.com/2016/10/in-heart-of-sea-full-slip-limited.html], that was misfire for me, but its different topic.Full Slip is not the only thing that deserves the podium, as the steelbook that it holds is amazing piece of art. Embossing on the logo and main title with this incredible artwork is brilliant mix. On top of that glossy finish and it was easily the best steelbook of the year. In addition to the whole release standard postcards and booklet. Manta Lab entered the market with big bang and the rest is history.

To spice this edition up – Man of Steel’s signature was mandatory.  I gave it to Henry Cavill that I met during promotional tour of Netflix series Witcher. He was very nice in person & I was surprise by his kindness and patience. He literally delayed the screening of the series due to the fact that he wanted to talk to everyone who wanted to meet him. I believe he is the true Man of Steel.

With the whole amazing news about final release of Snyder Cut, I thought it would be good moment to do the unboxing of this amazing edition. Have a nice unboxing experience!

  6. Signed by Frodo – Elijah Wood, that I had pleasure to meet in 1Q of 2020. This unboxing video may be not the perfect one, as it may be too fast for some viewers, but when I was working on new editing (slower tempo), my hard drive’s life was stopped. Anyway, I still got my “old cut” of the unboxing – and here it is! I hope that you like it, at least I am sure that those who liked my first videos with fall in love with this one.

In description section under the video on YouTube there is also link to very detailed photo unboxing (110+ photos) –

check it out, as it may fill all needed gaps for those who want to see everything in detail.

Middle Earth set was released some time ago, but only now I  finally got my hands on it. Extended editions of both The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings all in one big package + extras, took me a while to watch. Each film comes with extensive documentaries chronicling the creation of each film - all bonus content ever released for both the theatrical and extended editions of each movie is included in this set. That adds up to 30 discs total.

Let’s be fair – its big, but it’s the best set and probably it will be hard to beat it (Taiwan DVD set, may be good contender, but there is no Hobbit and Blu-ray in it). Each movie comes in a "faux leather" book, and the six books fit on a solid, "Hobbit-style" wooden shelf with a design selected by Peter Jackson. Shelf is solid and heavy, you can feel the difference. This wooden edition is wooden (!). There's also a recreation of the Red Book of Westmarch. It contains 100 pages of sketches and artwork from conceptual artists Alan Lee and John Howe as well as inserts in post-card style with maps and other goodies. Both Lee and Howe worked on all six films, and both artists have worked in Tolkien's universe since long before Jackson's films arrived. On top of that 2 watercolor reproductions of their art are included as well, ready for framing.

^^ Great movie and what looks to be a great bundle. 🙂

Unfortunately I think the price is a bit too daunting for what they offer.

Including both the films The Curse and Die Monster Die was brilliant and I'm still not sure how they got license to pull that off but it should still only bring the bundle to approx 60 Euros imho.

I managed to purchase both those fliks in lovely stand alone Media Books, for approx 20 Euro each.

Using the German translated title does not bother me but I've heard it does bother a LOT of North American collectors. Obviously this was made for the German market so it is understandable, just perhaps not a great marketing strategy, as it ostracizes a large market that I think may have bought this otherwise.

So, if I see this on sale for around the 50-60 Euro mark, I may still grab it, otherwise I'll be passing. 🙂

    Thanks for posting @Movie_Shelter ! 😀

Yeah, German title for me is ok, but still if it would be in english for sure it would be better.

Initialy I bought this one mainly die to the other films in the collection, as it is and probably will be the only set that has so many extras.

When it arrived and i saw the look of the boxset (holofoil like effect) i instantly felt in love with it.

It worth 70 euro mark, but 90 is not so tempting, however i am not dissapointed.
