The film explores the dark side of the human psyche and experiments with innovative styles, heralding the Hong Kong New Wave. The nostalgic world of mystique created in The Secret is now digitally restored to its original splendour.

This Blu-ray came out of nowhere. It's released directly by the Hong Kong Film Archive, and currently only available to buy there in-person (although it might be available to order from Hong Kong bookshops). There's been zero promotion for it at all and it just showed up randomly one day on the HKFA site. The Archive has restored movies and released them on DVD before, but this is their first ever Blu-ray release.

It's also a very important release as well. Unless you saw it at the cinema back in the 70s or at some screening at a film festival, it's been completely unavailable--not even on VCD!

Found this on ebay for 42 dollars. Very exciting. Can't wait to see what HKFA does next.

It's an amazing release simply for existing. But I think people should still set their expectations accordingly in regards to picture and sound since they didn't restore it from a negative, and that they had to take the opening and end credits from tape.

I'm not the kind of guy who nitpicks transfers. I'm very happy to see the love that went into this release. I want MORE from HKFA.

 

Also having the 64 page booklet in English is very cool too

I think it was an impressive first release, of especially doing it on there own. KOFA’s release are pretty high quality and is see HKFA reaching those standards at some point.
