  1. Thanks @Veum— I wasn’t sure whether I could link any outside site here!
  2. Here are my very first two Group Buy items from MP (Jaws UHD Club and Das Boot MAG). surrounding them are a few other premium editions that arrived in the last couple of months (via that most terrible and desperate way to get them: eBay, of course!) BTW, I do open all of these, whenever possible I just slice open the side to remove the discs cases and booklets, but maybe I should start getting MP sleeve protectors so I can take that shrink wrap all the way off.
  3. okay,@Sidewinder , you asked for it! Here is a general alphabetical list of Film Noir titles I particularly love; the ones with an asterisk (*) in front of them are favorites (though all are great). Most of these exist in restorations on Blu-ray disc, and a few on 4K UHD disc. Undoubtedly I’ve forgotten many titles, but this is a good start: *711 Ocean Drive (1950) *99 River Street (1953) *The Asphalt Jungle (1950) *The Big Heat (1953) *The Breaking Point (1950) The Brothers Rico (1958) *Brute Force (1947) Call Northside 777 (1948) *Champion (1949) *Crime Wave (1954) *Criss Cross (1949) Crossfire (1947) *Cry of the City (1948) *D.O.A. (1950) *The Dark Corner (1946) *Detour (1945) *Double Indemnity (1944) Drive a Crooked Road (1954) Framed (1947) *Gaslight (1944) *Gilda (1946) *Gun Crazy (1949) He Walked by Night (1948) *High Sierra (1941) The Hitch-Hiker (1953) *The House on 92nd Street (1945) *In a Lonely Place (1950) Johnny Eager (1941) Johnny Guitar (1954) Johnny O'Clock (1947) *Kansas City Confidential (1952) *The Killers (1946) *The Killing (1956) *Kiss of Death (1947) *Kiss the Blood Off My Hands (1948) *The Lady from Shanghai (1948) *Laura (1944) *Leave Her to Heaven (1945) The Lineup (1958) *Lured (1947) *Mildred Pierce (1945) The Mob (1951) *Moonrise (1948) *Murder, My Sweet (1944) *The Narrow Margin (1952) *Night and the City (1950) *The Night of the Hunter (1955) *Nightmare Alley (1947) No Way Out (1950) Nora Prentiss (1947) *Notorious (1946) On Dangerous Ground (1952) *Out of the Past (1947) Phantom Lady (1944) The Phenix City Story (1955) *Pickup on South Street (1953) *Pitfall (1948) *The Postman Always Rings Twice (1946) *Private Hell 36 (1954) *Raw Deal (1948) *Road House (1948) *Scarlet Street (1945) Shakedown (1950) The Sleeping City (1950) The Sniper (1952) *Sorry, Wrong Number (1948) *The Strange Love of Martha Ivers (1946) *Stranger on the Third Floor (1940) *Strangers on a Train (1951) *Sunset Blvd. (1950) *Sweet Smell of Success (1957) *T-Men (1947) *They Drive By Night (1940) *They Live by Night (1949) *Thieves' Highway (1949) *The Third Man (1949) Tight Spot (1955) Tomorrow Is Another Day (1951) *Too Late for Tears (1949) *Touch of Evil (1958) *The Turning Point (1952) The Undercover Man (1949) *Union Station (1950) *Where the Sidewalk Ends (1950) The Window (1949) *Woman in Hiding (1950) *The Woman in the Window (1945) *Woman on the Run (1950) If pressed, I'd say my current Top 5 are In A Lonely Place, Double Indemnity, Gilda, Raw Deal, and The Narrow Margin A great resource on home media releases for these titles is online at DVD Beaver, and they even have a handy guide to Essential Film Noir
  4. Holy shimoly, can't wait to get my Edge of Tomorrow, and Drive (in various deluxe editions beyond my bare-bones version) is on my wish list!
  5. @SidewinderThank you very much for taking the time to read my (too-lengthy) introduction! Ha ha, after I wake up this morning I will be happy to compile a list of my favorite noir titles, it’s pretty lengthy! Many of them are fairly obscure, but thankfully most have been released in high definition by smaller companies. Not too many 4K titles out there of noirs as of yet, but that is changing. I don’t collect every title by all of those niche companies. For example, Vinegar Syndrome especially has more gore and “exploitation” titles, which I’m not into at all. As I said, I’ll be happy to give you a list of favorites and will do so in a few hours. Thanks again!
  6. LOL, I was looking at the wrong frame!!!! Bettter check first before I throw the bathwater out.
  7. Damnit… I thought for sure that’s when Felix is hanging by his hands and the sharks are ready to get him.
  8. Howdy folks from the vast expanses of the Wild West of the USA! I'm a retired teacher. Though I'm a life-long movie fan, what I don't know about Cinema scares me--my knowledge is nuttin' compared to many of you out there! My tastes are all over the place, but some favorites include many Film Noir titles from the 1940's and 50's, and more mainstream things like JAWS, BLADE RUNNER (both, of course!), the ALIEN saga, and the STAR WARS saga. I've just started exploring the Marvel Universe (via the correct timeline!) Physical media-wise, I have over 2500 movies/videos. Favorite companies whose titles I compulsively and obsessively collect include Criterion, British Film Institute (BFI), studiocanal, Eureka, Arrow, Powerhouse/Indicator, Via Vision/Imprint, Flicker Alley, the Film Noir Foundation, Vinegar Syndrome, and last but not least, Kino Lorber (who are true wonders on this side of the pond with their vast catalogue of more obscure titles). Regardless of streaming, I do pick up many 4K UHD titles now because nothing will ever beat the uncompressed quality of physical media for the ultimate playback experience. I love the premium sets that are famously covered by the Group Buys here and have started collecting a number of them. I am truly overwhelmed by the MP cosmos, there is so much to learn here, so many things going on here. Because of that I tend to be more of a lurker rather than direct contributor--mostly because others can express my thoughts more eloquently and most often *do*. I do read threads and offer little badges for posts (yeah!)--but I'm much better at one-on-one conversations than group amplification of my thoughts. I'll work on that.... Brian P.S. for those that want to know, a Manticore is a mythical beast with the head of a man, body of a lion, and tail of a scorpion.
  9. from one new member to another, welcome!
