  1. Yeah, I'm with @R1s1ngs0n and @Gary K . . . but your provocateur gangster lean has me curious . . .
  2. Perfectly said Gary. I get annoyed with people always dissing on the academy awards, either because the movies they think are great don't win, or because it isn't representative of their cinema ideal. This is an industry award show, it is not a fan award show, it is not a history of cinema award show, it is not any of those thing. It is an industry telling others in their industry what they like, what they think is important, and what they want to award. I am not in the academy, but have many friends who are (I love all those free screening, pre-release BluRay parties!) and most of them are voting based on industry considerations at the time of the awards. Like Gary said, it's a snapshot of industry opinion at that moment. And those opinions of the academy are based on all the insider industry considerations of their career experiences at that time (almost all of which the public have no idea of what is happening). Look at the Miramax years, and the lobbying, and the way Miramax was changing the industry, it is reflected in the way the academy voted during those times. Did Gwenny "deserve" the best actress Oscar over Cate Blanchett that year? From a performance stand point, no, but at that moment in time, the industry loved what Miramax was doing and wanted to award that. The opinion that the academy awards is a joke because they don't reward the truly best film is just a lack of understanding and accepting what the academy awards are.
  3. My sarcasm sometimes falls flat . . . the title of BF Casablanca is off the coast of Tanzania and Madagascar, and Morocco is barely seen on the back of the BluFans edition. Design wise it looks better, but strikes me as odd to have the title on the opposite coast of Africa, so I assumed Morocco used to be closer to Madagascar in the 1940s. Wah wah wah wah . . . .
  4. Nice @LeadFarmer and @hansreinhardt!! 2 things : Casablanca on my short list for a “best of” award for 2024. Love it. In the early 40s, Morocco was closer to Madagascar than it is now.
  5. Yeah, we went in for something else, and they had a few things dropped to $9.99, but stuff I already had.
  6. Our plan . . continue care for the dog who had cancer surgery and is a handful right now. Poor thing. Hard to watch her so uncomfortable, but everyday gets a bit better. Other plan . . . pizza and more TV binging. We just finished the amazing Andor, and will prob go on to Ahsoka, Mando, Obi, Boba. What you doing? Making more videos? I watched your trip to Best Buy vid, so depressing, right? Like a post mortem. Sorta reminded me of this YouTube genre, Dead Malls. When they go to abandon malls and take tours. Your vid wasn't the same, but it reminded me of it.
  7. @Veum do you have any contact with @Grendel outside of MP? I wonder how Jeff is doing. Smart dude, this forum benefits from his knowledge . It's been a while since he posted.
  8. The talk on the Andor steelbook release thread made me want to rewatch. Of course all these directors on this show are great, but a big shoutout to Susanna White and the three episodes Aldhani, The Axe Forgets, The Eye. Some incredible camera work and fantastically subtle, but effective, storyline crossing. I love how we see the inner workings of the Senate during the Empire's reign, but it doesn't fall in to political melodrama, the stakes are handled so well. So good. I hope she gets another set of episodes in season 2.
  9. Anyone else think that the dude with the most custom slips, could have had a "custom" Bingo grid too? He's good at getting things to come out how he wants them to, right? Is Üdi working with the bunny? Just sayin'.
  10. don’t remember his name but that’s Villanelle’s handler from Killing Eve. Not sure if that gif is from that show but it looks like his character.
  11. This could be the most perfect and succinct analysis of a movie sequel I’ve ever read. And it makes me want to see Dune 2 sooner because I was pleasantly shocked at how much I liked Dune.
  12. oh yeah me too. Best of the SW series imo. Love all the stuff with Luthen and Mon Mothma and all the hidden Rebellion stories. Shows the dark side of the rebellion and makes it so interesting, it de-Lucasifies the SW world. Bummed the new season takes so long to come out. Steel looks good.
  13. @goose_3387 Looking forward to many more Goose birthdays here on MP with us!!!
  14. A premium of this is a grail for me (something better than HDZ). The directors cut mediabook isn’t bad for Blu-ray inexpensive watch edition. Amadeus is a top five all time movie imo. Far from Oscar bait, it deserved every award and is a nearly perfect movie. The closest thing to an authentic Shakespearean tragedy we have in cinema. Milos at his tip top. (Yes Cuckoo is great but is derivative of Fuller’s Shock Corridor). Amadeus is truly unique in terms of themes, cinematic structure, music as plot device and character development and the use of in narrative narration. Fantastic film. And yes in spite of some of the criticism, I think the DC is better than the theatrical release although I see the points made by those who don’t like it. Glad we are seeing some movement toward a 4k and hoping for a Citizen Kane style WCL release, or even a Second Sight Hanging Rock style would be great.
  15. Confirming @Chief_lookout and @MikeH5856 above. I don't think I have ever had any issue with anything from FNAC. Once they sent me the wrong Thor steel, and once corrected, sent the Mondo steel right away, and let me keep the incorrect Thor steel.
