  1. i dont have many dvds right now, i sold or got rid of them as their quality is too bad for these days and i already replaced a lot of them. i only kept a few films that i really like very much and that havent been released with czech/slovak language. red hot chili peppers - live at slane castle - i used to love RHCP and this concert was the first dvd i have ever bough so a lot of nostalgia heret; too bad it is only on dvd wait until dark - one of the best performances by the great audrey hepburn ever the boat that rocked / pirate radio - i love this film by richard curtis together with its soundtrack and the music of the 60s death at the funeral (UK version) - hilarious finding neverland - really touching story. each watching cost me some tears at the end when i had my dvds out, i used some of them also for the second part of the challenge as they truly deserve steelbook (with bluray - in my case) moneyball - i need to rewatch this, i havent seen it in years a good year - let me open the bottle of wine and enjoy this movie spy game - i think that bluray with czech subtitles was released in germany vicky cristina barcelona - the great trio and the best woody allen according to me lemony snickets series of unfortunate events - i believe that the premium edition would be fantastic as there were plenty of great images in the film
  2. taschen is having a sale right now with interesting price discounts. if you want star wars book, i believe it is great time to do it now.
  3. i have been even looking at the previous editions of it. when this one came out and it included "no time to die", i felt it was the right time to get it (as it covers all movies until daniel craig 's last film as 007). the book is great! plenty of photos, interesting texts,. you can open it anywhere and you will find something interesting on that page. really fantastic. on the other hand, its size and weight are too much, i suppose. i knew exactly what i was buying, but during reading, i need to have a book put on the table to enjoy it while reading. it is impossible to sit on the couch and go through it while having it on legs/knees as it is very uncomfortable. it really is heavy. but i will never regret buying it.
  4. interesting challenge, @Mrdugan, for sure. i wanted to show different films and different items that go with them. so here it is: harry potter films - board game (harry potter: hogwarts battle) james bond films - book (the james bond archives by taschen) saw + it 1+2 - t-shirt with the bunch of friends :-) star wars films - action figure (hasbro SW the black series hyperreal darth vader 8 inch) - still unopened manchester united: the official history 1878-2002 document on dvd - piggy bank
  5. hello, i was away for some time so i was not able to join challenge 16. but here i am for challenge 17! lethal weapon 1-4 - was the first film that came to my mind when i read the challenge. it has been mentioned multiple times but i cant skip these films suicide squad - there is the whole squad, i know, but the duo harley quinn (margot robbie) / deadshot (will smith) was fantastic dredd - the duo of olivia thrilby and karl urban (with only bottom half of his face) was also a joy to watch mr and mrs smith - the combination of comedy and action works very well with angelina jolie and brad pitt body of lies - great movie, maybe a bit forgotten (thats why i chose it). the duo leonardo di caprio/russell crowe worked pretty well even when each one of them was doing their part of the work body of lies is the movie i would like to see the premium collection of.
  6. challenge 15 here are my 5 snow/christmas movies: - the revenant - fac - wind river - fac - everest - fac - nightmare beforr christmas - amaray - love actually - amaray in the last few days i have watched multiple christmas movies, mist of them with my kids: - nightmare before christmas - even when we watched it after halloween - home alone 1 - home alone 2 - arthur chriatmas - klaus (beautiful film i discovered last year) - s tebou mne bavi svet (en: i enjoy the world with you (classic film from 80s in our region, it was announced as the best czech comedy ever) - pelisky (en: cosy dens) - another great czech film - perinbaba (en: the weather fairy) - nice slivak fairy tale from 80s
  7. when morocco eliminited portugal in quarter final, i got this great idea - to get some extra points, i decided to change all my predictions for all resting matches to the other team than i previously considered as winner. my mind was telling me that no other super surprises will come but i still wanted to get more points. but in these last 5 matches, i got 0 (=zero) winners 🤣 it was all-or-nothing and i got nothing. anyway, this small blackout of my mind didnt make the experience worse as this was another great prediction football game. thanks @extantsrevengefor organizing it. thanks @Cornbuster for the award design. and congratulations to @Reagh @Mrdugan and @Rambo for getting to the TOP3. magnificent 👏 it was really fun 👍
  8. this week's challenge was not so difficult to complete.l so i chose the films that would probably be not so often in other challenges. - the jungle book - tiger - goosebumps - monkey, wolf, mantis - seven psychopaths - dog, rabbit - jumanji - rhino, elephant, monkey - shaun the sheep the film - sheep (obviously) i dont have favourite animal, but my parents used to have a dog - german boxer. and i loved her so much ❤️
  9. hello everybody, i made the direct order of avengers2 (b2 edition) via weet website and paid. it was my first (and last) direct purchase from them. the edition has been released a few months ago and my order still has the status "preparations" and it has not been sent yet. i have sent multiple emails to weet (to their service email that is on the website) but i have not received any response. does anybody have similar experience with them? thanks
  10. what a nice challenge when we need to switch from movies to TV. the thing with tv series in my region is the lack of them that have local audio/subtitles. like i mentioned in some threads before, i often watch films/tv series with my family and watching them in english is no-go for them. so the choice here is extremely limited.. here are my tv series: band of brothers / the pacific - BoB is one of the best and the most realistic tv series ever. the pacific was not so great. i believe that there were some rumours about another series that would focus on planes. i dont know if this is true, but it could be nice planet earth - this one does not need local audio. all you have to do is to sit and watch the spectacular images of our planet. wow! chernobyl - fantastic tv show as the story is great (but sad) and based on the real events true detective - to be honest, i like 2nd season a bit more than the 1st season. the 1st one was a bit too slow for me. but the duo harrelson-mcconaughey was extraordinary. 3rd season has never been released here game of thrones - while the seasons were based on the books, it was one of the best tv shows ever. but the later seasons were going down in the quality. anyway, still a great tv show. once i have been thinking about picking up the whole show in steelbooks but due to the price, i decided to go with amaray. later the 4k edition was released and it got me thinking again. i am still not decided about purchasing it in 4k (i know it deserves 4k and it looks fantastic!). maybe one day.... tv shows that deserve release on physical media would be: ripper street ozark la casa de papel (money heist) big little lies narcos maybe they were released somewhere, but none of these had "my" language. i dont say that these are the best shows, they just came to my mind.
  11. this has been one of the toughest challenges IMO. it is not a problem to make it. the problem is that there are so many great directors that it is impossible to choose between them. anyway, i wanted to avoid some obvious choices like christopher nolan (he may not be the best one, but he is obviously in my TOP 1 :-)), steven spielberg, james cameron, ridley scott, david fincher, quentin tarantino, martin scorsese, clint eastwood, ron howard, jj abrams, ben affleck, michael mann and many more... so here are my directors (i dont say they are my favourite, but i really like them a lot). damien chazelle - this guy is extraordinary. his love for music and film combine and none of his (few) films was average. btw, have you seen the trailer for his next film "babylon"? it looks interesting. whiplash - FAC la la land - mantalab first man - FAC sam mendes - this director has much longer career than chazelle. i dont like all of his films, but most of them are great. road to perdition - amaray skyfall - steelbook 1917 - novamedia peter jackson - the hobbit trilogy is very good, king kong is great but he deserves the neverending glory for his adaptation of LOTR. the lord of the rings - the fellowship of the ring - hdzeta the lord of the rings - the two towers - hdzeta the lord of the rings - the return of the king - hdzeta
  12. what a surprise! SA beat argentina?! still great to see some unexpected results, it makes everything more interesting.
  13. we all understand why this trend of 💲equels/prequel💲/reboot💲/etc is going on but the original scripts are not supported by the film studios as these are now considered as potential financial bombs. it is sad because at the beginning of each series or franchise there was an original script... there are few exceptions (christopher nolan and jordan peele come to my mind) but it is not enough. ok, here are my sequals chosen for this challenge: the dark knight - i wanted to avoid the classical selection like T2 or SW: ESB but in case of the TDK i couldnt overlook it as it is one of the best films ever IMO; the main difference from the previous film (batman begins) is that it has strong villain and it makes the movie go on smoothly the bourne ultimatum - even when the 2nd film in the franchise (the bourne supremacy) had the same director as this one, this is the perfect ending to the whole trilogy, it is the synonymum of the nonstop movement with the strong focus on the physical presence in the action scenes; ...and the editing and sound are superb star wars - the revenge of the sith - for me this film is the perfect connection of the sequals to the prequels and it shows the birth of the best villain in the galaxy captain america - the winter soldier - putting captain america to the present days was a good choice, it is more serious than the first film (or most of other MCU films), the physical action was great casino royale - it is rough and raw, daniel craig's james bond is full of emotions (anger, pain, love...), he looks like the emotionless machine, but he is still a human and the emotions have a stong impact on him (what is visible also in the next films) a film that is a great underrated gem that had the possibility to get a sequel or two (or even more - as it is based on the book series) is master and commander - the far side of the world. the low box office was probably the main reason why this one never had the sequel. now it would not make much sense as it has been almost 20 (!!!) years since its release, but in the mid 00's i really wanted to see another great story.
  14. february was the time of preorder, but the release date has been delayed multiple times. i had 3 films in the order so i had to wait for all 3 to be released so that filmarena could send it to me.
  15. ok, so here is my selection for the challenge n. 10. braveheart - spear edge of tomorrow - helicopter tail rotor blade / sword kill bill - katana the departed - hand held gun tears of the sun - some gun (maybe m4a1?) favourite weapon of a hero could be hellboy's good samaritan favourite weapon of a villian is definitely joker's pencil in the dark knight. technically it may not be a weapon, but it has been used for killing and the scene always makes me laugh 😆
  16. a few new arrivals from the last week: shang-chi - italian 4k steelbook top gun maverick - italian 4k steelbook backdraft - fac ww84 - fac antman and wasp - fac these FACs were ordered on february 2nd. it means that the child would be born sooner than this order was delivered to me. 😕
  17. i appreciate this challenge as music in the movies is very important part of the movie experience. unfortunately, i dont have any physical soundtracks (or CDs at all TBH) so i will skip this challenge. but i have to 👏 to everybody who still have soundtracks on CD. anyway, i would like to share with you the list of soundtracks that i still love and i used to have in my collection (most of them physically, but some as digital copies). scores (music only): tim burtons corpse bride (danny elfman) amelie from montmartre (yann tiersen) gladiator (hans zimmer) cloud atlas (tom tykwer, johnny klimek, reinhold heil) extremely loud, incredibly close (alexandre desplat) soundtracks (songs): rudderless almost famous pulp fiction the departed into the wild
  18. i forgot to mention how are my movies stored. since i begin buying dvds, all my movies have been stored in alphabetic order. anyway, as the number of movies is increasing, there is not enough room for them in the bedroom (also "thanks" to the premium collections that are much wider than steelbooks and amarays. so a lot of my movies is stored under the bed and they are waiting for my bedroom to get rearranged. there i am planning to have some special spots (like marvel, christopher nolan films, james bond films, maybe films for kids, harry potter films etc) and the rest will stay in alphabetic order. at least, this is my thinking right now.
  19. what a colourful challange! :-) red - the incredibles (kimchidvd) orange - fantastic mr fox (UK steelbook) yellow - sabotage (fac) green - sicario (fac) pale blue - forrest gump (fac) dark blue/purple - la la land (mantalab) pink - spider-man into the spider-verse (fac)
  20. i like horror movies but i dont think that many of them are really good. i dont expect horror films to have oscar ambitions but many times they are really stupid or use the same approaches all the time (e.g. when a person is really close to the camera and there is a lot of dark behind him/her - especially if the person is not in the middle of camera shot, you can expect that somebody/something will jump or at least appear from the dark). anyway, despite this, i usually enjoy watching horror films. i remember that when i was a child, some episodes of TV series "x-files" were extremely frightening and i sometimes had the issues to go to sleep after that. watching "sinister" for the first time was really frightening. when we were watching it with my wife at home, i had to pee maybe 30 minutes before the end of the film. i stood from the couch, went to the toilet through the hallway. when i entered the hallway, i made a step back and turned the light on. my wife asked me if i feared, but i answered: "of course not, i just dont want to kick into something if it was on the ground." when we are rewatching "sinister", we always laugh on this 🙂 my choice: saw - the final twist was fantastic; i rewatched it last month (after a long time) and the movie was not so interesting like i remembered it. sinister - great horror get out - something different, very good it 1+2 - very good adaption of the book, especially the first film piranha - photos of "jaws" from other psychos inspired me for this one. i really like this horror comedy 🙂
