Lobby Card Collections

@Grendel and I started a convo in a release topic about lobby cards so, I thought I'd move it here.

Sorry to let you down, but my full lobby card collection is in storage (climate controlled of course) so, nothing too impressive to show.

It sounds like your setup is going to be pretty saaaawweeeeet once you get everything sorted in the guest room.  A media library sounds pretty fantastic!  You can get those lobby cards out of their case.

When eBay launched in the late nineties, one of the first things that popped up randomly as I was browsing the digital bay, was an original lobby card from Willy Wonka with the Oompa Loompas.  That started a binge.  I actually preferred the faded ones, where they had this beautiful soft aged look.  I set up a metal frame in my office, then on 21st street in New York, and I'd rotate them out.  They were great conversation starters.  I was shooting a lot of bath and body advertising at the time, and I remember being influenced by that muted, desaturated look.  Never any primary colors in them either.  Super awesome style.  Even though the lighting is almost always terrible, at least by today's standards.

My fav one is this one.  A Casino Royale of David Niven.  I don't know why, it just struck me as awesomely ridiculous.  Just makes me smile.

One of my vinyl collecting buddies is a huge, and I mean huge, movie poster collector.  He's got it sorted.  He had one big section of a wall in his basement, about 2 meters wide, built as a gigantic light box.  You can then slide movie posters in and out very easily in a loose frame.  And they glow!  It's very cool.  The double sided ones obviously don't work.  He's got a great eye for posters that go together.  I don't know that I'd want to take that much wall space for that, but I'm thrilled someone else did it.  I'm partial to people who love something so much they got to extended ends to enjoy it.

Send some pics of your media library when you get it set up.  Curious how you display things.
