  1. Apologies for the long absence from these challenges! I was unable to fulfill all the requirements for Challenge 18. Although I do have a ton of merchandise tied to specific franchises and films, most of what I have is JUST for those franchises and, unfortunately, those number less than five lol. So, onward to...

CHALLENGE 19 - Through the Decades - A cinematic Journey.

While these films are by no means intended to represent the entire decade in which they were released, they are nevertheless significant to me for various reasons.

Jaws (70s) - the OG creature feature, IMHO, which defied all expectations even though the audience never sees the creature for most of the movie. And that soundtrack....

A Nightmare on Elm Street (80s) - still remains to this day the only film franchise to ever truly "scare" me, and by far one of my favorites of the genre.

Jurassic Park (90s) - one of the first films I can remember seeing in the theaters, and one I was the most excited to see. I have vivid memories of catching the theatrical trailer on television and running into the kitchen to tell my mom we NEEDED to go see it. I was 11 when this movie was released.

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2000s) - everybody knows why this one is on the list lol. Truly a epic masterpiece of cinematic history.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2010s) - by far the best of the sequel trilogy, TFA represents the beginning of the end of the franchise responsible for my dive down the rabbit hole of science fiction & fantasy.

I didn't really start collecting movies in the truest sense until I found my first steelbook in early 2018. But with the rise of streaming and the whole move away from physical media the industry seems to be pushing, my collection has only grown and grown significantly at that.

My favorite decade for movies is probably the 2000s. I'm an early 80s baby, so I didn't really care about anything until the 90s and then really into the turn of the century, when movie technology really took off. Some of favorite movies were released this decade and thereafter.

@TechSpec924Film, character, anything really... just let me know an idea and I'll go from there. 👍

Cool! So...I'm a HUGE Star Trek fan and my first thought for a signature image was a profile shot of Data from TNG with the skin missing from the side of his face, revealing the android underneath. I don't know what you might want to use as a background, maybe something robotic or something like a computer chip or motherboard design. And I'm also a newly-minted Gold member.

This is what I'm imagining.... I leave the rest in your very capable hands, but please do reach out if you need anything more from me. Thank you!

GB MASTERS operate as Hubs for their respective regions.

A hub is a “main transhipment base” in the logistics chain. It is a place where consignments are collected, sorted and reloaded. Generally, the hub is regarded as the central location for dealing with all the activities that are related to the movement of goods, organisation and coordination within a national and international borders.

Next time, lead with that! 🤣

And now that I know what a "GB Master" is and does...Congrats @Fortis93!

I’m going use this image as my next tattoo, which means I’m gonna have to preform my moderator duties to the bare minimum and show no initiative. A promotion down the road would be problematic.

Just get it tattooed somewhere with a lot of room for expansion, like your back. Then just go for sort of a collage motif every time you get promoted...or DEmoted, as the case may be lol.

They still look to be available on the website.  No experience with any purchases from Rarofilms other than seeing these being available to purchase on the website.  Editions are named the same but artwork on website does not match all the artwork on page 1 of this thread, so not sure why that is.  Wonder which artwork is correct.  Good luck.

Thanks for the info! I'll definitely check it out.

  7. Well, it looks like I'm already too late to get in on this. Kicking myself in disbelief that I missed this! One of my favorite horror franchises of all time and I would love to own a copy of one of these beautiful editions. Always held off on that 7-film Blu-ray edition hoping for something better. The only reason I even found this when I did is because my Secret Santa mentioned it to me during our conversations lol. Barring the second-hand market, if any of these ever become available here again, I would love to get my hands on them.

It's almost guaranteed this will be a low effort piece.

Though, I'm happy to be proven wrong.

I'm inclined to agree with you at this juncture. They have already shown up on the D100 page on Best Buy's website with corresponding SKUs for that product range. Just discovered this fact a little while ago. So...that's not encouraging.

  9. Do we know for sure this, and the rest of the OG Trilogy, is part of the new Disney 100 collection? Based on the revealed designs so far, that would be disappointing considering the atrocious art choices. I literally just decided yesterday to pre-order these hoping for something different.

Might be the fastest pre-order cancellation in history if this is true lol.

One more thought: I know a lot of us are probably thinking ahead to the slipcovers for the next two movies. For me, though, I'd prefer to let the artist find a groove that works for each movie, rather than working to design something for the first one that will serve as a template for the next two.

Agreed! As long as the artist ties them together in a meaningful way, I'm cool with that. If that first concept art is any indication, it's off to a great start!

I get that, personally I just think it looks a little busy but I don't dislike it as is. I think once finished it could look really nice if the right colors and style is used.

Personally, i think the lightsaber shooting into the death star and converting into the x wings trail is bad ass and could almost be the art by itself, maybe with obi and Vader higher and further back but I thats probably too far away from what the artist is envisioning

I still say ditch the sandcraller tho lol

The sandcrawler just feels a little extraneous. I feel like it isn't really needed and doesn't add anything substantive to the overall theme the artist might be shooting for. He could remove that and insert the duo of C-3PO/R2-D2, and I think that would still keep the hero theme for the lower third.

You could remove almost everything else except the lightsaber splitting the cover in two, and just enlarge the portraits of Obi-Wan and Vader and have a cover just for that. With the trio of Luke, Leia, and Han at the center-bottom corresponding with the lightsaber....

If we do decide to lose that concept, then we could shift to heroes on the left side and villains on the right, or something like that.

And if this were to be the case, one of my first thoughts when reading about the artist's vision for almost "splitting" the cover with the lightsaber concept was for heroes on one side and villains on the other. Then for your color scheme, you have blue hues and tones for the Light Side and Reds for the Dark Side. Not sure how that would look in practice, or even if that would look good at all since that would maybe be a little too "linear." And I know there are already existing cover arts that follow that color scheme, so it wouldn't be anything new and exciting, which is what I'm envisioning for this project.

If we mess with what's in the top third, though, we lose the artist's concept of heroes in the lower third, villains in the upper third, and the good-vs.-evil conflict in the middle. If we do decide to lose that concept, then we could shift to heroes on the left side and villains on the right, or something like that. And then the top third could have Imperial troopers on one side and Rebel troopers on the other. But I think I prefer the way it's laid out currently—as long as the other side of the case includes a good arrangement of the side characters.

Dang...I had to go back and re-study the rendering, and you are indeed correct. I totally missed that symmetry because I was focusing more on the individual elements. I didn't remember the artist explicitly stating that in his intro--and it isn't stated like that--but I see it now lol.

I also like your idea of all the main characters on the one side and more of the supporting cast on the reverse. If the designs were to go that route, I'd definitely be behind it that much more.

    Hi guys,

CE got an artist who is a fan of Star Wars to create a concept draft as the first step for this project.

His idea to to feature more villains on the cover and more heroes on the other side.

    1571364366_StarWarsIV.thumb.png.a8fdfec8ca427278487eb55f3c8b56e9.png

    NOTE:

This is a very simple illustration without the facial and art details.

It is to indicate which characters are featured and their size and placement.

    The artist's description:

Thanks to MP and CE for giving me the opportunity to create one of my favorite movies, Star Wars. There are so many classic elements in Star Wars that I tried to in the pictures.

    Star Wars 4: A New Hope :

It was conceived to embody the master-apprentice feud between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader, with the two back facing with Galactic Empire forces at the top and desert sandtroopers and death stars on the planet Tatooine gunner), Death Star and Governor Wilhuff Tarkin. The lower part of the picture highlights the concept of new hope, with Leia, Han Solo and Luke Skywalker as the foreground of the picture.

Luke's lightsaber will form a straight line with the X-Wing Starfighter through the death star, and the bottom of the screen will show the Tatooine planet and the desert sandcrawler.  Finally, I joined the Millennium Falcon next to the death star.

    Hope to hear your comments.

It will be good to comment on the style of colours and art.

    Any characters to be included.

    Cheers,

    KS

Overall, I do like this concept. Definitely something different than all the other cover arts out there, and something I think would look absolutely fantastic on a slip.

Like others have said, I don't think the Sandcrawler is strictly necessary. Maybe instead of that, we can get C-3PO & R2-D2 in that corner, to sort of round out the hero characters in ANH.

Tarkin, I think, can also go. Instead, maybe move the Millennium Falcon into that corner and make it a little bigger.... Otherwise, I think this looks great.

    Just my humble thoughts.

    Thanks, dude!

I've been having a ton of fun with the weekly challenges, and participating in those has really ramped up my participation overall. I had just been laying low, doing a few GBs, and getting to know everything and everyone. Now I almost feel like...a real Psycho lol.
