  5. Hollywood’s Hall of Horrifying Hell Chapter 8 & 9 I lumped both Sleepaway Camp 2 & 3 together because they’re not worth separate reviews. The ball was dropped with both sequels. Sleepaway Camp is no masterpiece of cinema. Like I said it is a B movie slasher, but the director who was also co-writer didn’t insult the audience. The characters felt like real people even in their over the top portrayals. These two sequels have almost nothing to offer the viewer! Unhappy Campers Cast The first movie had mystery you didn’t know who the killer was, but these movies throw that all away & give you the killer before the opening credits. Which would be fine if the killer was interesting, but there is nothing to this character. The character murders only because the writer says so. The surrounding characters are even worse! They don’t behave like normal people, hell they don’t behave like normal people in a C movie. There is no sense of urgency or concern. The characters continue to go missing & every other character continues on as if nothing is happening! Teenage Wasteland Cast Sleepaway Camp 2 & 3 offer no mystery, tension, or suspense. The dialogue is terrible, acting is bad, the deaths sequences feel like they where created in the moment & nothing in either plot is leading to anything. It feels like the creative team lost a bet for something & the losers of said bet had to make a sequel to Sleepaway Camp. Sleepaway Camp 2 did well because the 1st movie was good & so the team was forced to make another sequel. It’s the joke that keeps giving. It’s really a shame because these sequels could have offered more considering the first Sleepaway Camp started a foundation that just wasn’t about death & nudity. Real commentary could be had after viewing Sleepaway Camp. The only thing I got from these viewings is a series of exercise sessions of my patience! Number Rating - 4 out of 10 Letter Rating - F PS there is one positive I got from Sleepaway Camp 2! I really like this song that was playing during the title menu & end credits!
  6. Hollywood’s Hall of Horrifying Hell Chapter 7 I had no idea this movie existed until my girlfriend told me about it earlier this year. She explain that it was one of the few horrors that she liked as a kid. So I went on a hunt & found not only this one but two other sequels on blu Ray! Come to find out this isn’t the movie at all! She was talking about another film which turns out isn’t even a horror! Not sure how she got them mixed up or I misunderstood her, either way I’m glad it happened because Sleepaway Camp is a damn Classic! It’s a B movie slasher so set your expectations accordingly, it’s campy, there’s good acting, bad acting, hilarious dialogue, it’s suspenseful, the kills in the movie feel like some thought was put behind them, it’s predictable & shockingly unpredictable! The movie has some ingredients of social commentary which elevates it past most other films in this genre. Sleepaway Camp turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Given the premise this movie could have easily been just another run of the mil slasher, but Director Robert Hiltzik actually provides a disturbing mystery that is interesting because the real horror comes from it’s perverted exploration of adolescence. 7. Hollywood’s Hall of Horrifying Hell Chapter 6 Insidious is a supernatural horror film that walks familiar grounds of other ghost stories that you’ve seen. What sets this film apart is director James Wan ability to build tension and have you the audience member anxiously engaged in what’s going to happen to the characters. Director James Wan Also to be noted is strong performances from the cast giving special spotlight on Rose Byrne, & Patrick Wilson. They’re a likable couple & the kids played by Ty Simpkins & Andrew Astor are also pleasant. The situation is emotionally and physically exhausting & both leads do a well job conveying there point of view. The biggest takeaway & the most pleasant thing about the film is it really does deliver on the frights. It can be formulaic at times, Insidious at it’s core is just a haunted house story but I always have the chills after every viewing. Letter Rating - B Number Rating - 8.6
  8. Psychos I hope your Wednesday has been filled with peace & premiums! GoodNight!! May you all rest well so that when you wake tomorrow you're stronger than before!
  9. I never knew this one existed! What realm of the universe did you acquire this copy?
  10. Hollywood’s Hall of Horrifying Hell Chapter 5 This just like Terrifier was a movie I kept running across & was curious about. After watching Terrifier I thought to myself “it can’t possibly be worse?” I could have watched a trailer beforehand but I didn’t want anything being ruined so I went in with no idea of what this movie was about. I rolled the dice on this one & I wasn’t let down! There isn’t much I can say about this because elaborating to much will literally spoil the tricks n the treats of the movie. What I can say is that the whole movie takes place on the night of Halloween and there is five ongoing stories taking place at the same time centered around the holiday. The movie is clever, well edited, has a solid cast, & a tone full of apprehension. It has the blood, but leaves the guts. It also even has a since of humor. My only negative is that the movie is short so we don’t spend a lot of time with the characters. Only enough to keep you engaged, running in at 82mins it’s over before you know it. The movie actually plays just how Halloween does in real life. When I was a kid the day seemed to go by so fast, Before I knew it I was back in the house with a full bag of candy! Trick ’r Treat is an enjoyable little anthology, a love later to Halloween & horror films that I can easily recommend. Number Rating - 8 Letter Rating - B-
  11. Hollywood’s Hall of Horrifying Hell Chapter 4 This movie has been in my path a lot since being added to Netflix. Anytime I was in the horror section surfing around I see that crazy thumbnail & always use to think to myself “I have to check that movie out!” At work a video from Watch Mojo shows up in my YouTube feed titled “Top 10 Scariest Horror Movies On Netflix.” I being a horror Psycho clicks the video & this movie ends up number 4 on the list. I’m shocked, could it really be that good? In my mind I had no choice but to find out sooner than later. Viewing this movie had finally became a priority! As I’m watching this movie the truth is revealed to me early on, but I’m holding out. By the movies end there is only one truth for me. This movie is by far the worst sh!T I done seen all year! It just maybe the worst sh!T I done ever seen! Despite being pure monkey $hit the movie does have its positives. Art the Clown played by David Howard Thornton is memorably creepy! He is unpredictable & his antics is burned in my memory forever! Another plus is creator, writer, director Damien Leone is responsible for the superbly crafted special effects. David H Thornton Damien Leone And that’s where the positive train stops. The plot, there is none! The characters, are so unlikable & stupid that even when they die you don’t feel satisfied! I felt empty inside watching these horribly fake a$$ people get hacked up! Art the Clown as a concept has potential. He could be something special in horror history but I believe Damien is completely satisfied with just making brain dead, mind numbing, graphic gross gore fest drivel! With all that said I do believe there is an audience for this kind of possum piss. If you’re a gore whore & a fan of those really bad 80s slasher movies then please by all means indulge yourself in this gut wrenching $hit Show! Letter Rating - F Number Rating - 3.5
  12. Another morning, another day, another opportunity to be stronger than before! Psychos it’s our time! Tuesday was good! Today can be even better! Here’s to the Psycho family!
  13. Hollywood’s Hall of Horrifying Hell Chapter 3 Reflecting back on this movie I have mixed feelings. On one hand I really enjoyed the experience! On the other hand I know my enjoyment for this movie is anchored by the fact that I’m able to fill in the gaps because I have read & enjoyed the book. Unlike the first movie where Andy chooses to tell a more direct story here he follows the book blueprint more closely. This movie waste no time getting the gang back together & seeing the Losers Club reunite is endearing! We know them, & even though they’re being played by other actors they manage to still feel familiar. This is definitely one of the movies best qualities. The casting of the adult losers is very spot on. Just as the kids were authentic in there portrayal of adolescence, the adult actors are just as authentic in there portrayal of what these characters would be like in adulthood. Never have I seen a movie take so much care with casting young & old actors off one another. Most of the best scenes in the first Chapter came from the Losers being together & this movie is no different. Unfortunately though the director chooses to put the characters in situations that have them split up for a lot of the movie. What’s weird about this decision is that it doesn’t lead to character growth for the losers as it did in the first movie. The narrative becomes repetitive because all the losers are on the same mission. Instead of using most of the characters separate time for more development, it’s mostly used as a reason to have Pennywise show up. Pennywise is given more screen time to display why his horror icon status has grown, and it’s a delight to witness. Bill Skarsgård is once again brilliant in his portrayal! You have fun watching him be a horrible bastard clown causing all kinds of mayhem! Even though Pennywise is all kinds of fun he still isn’t scary. The director is clearly not interested in subtlety when it comes to the horror aspect of the movie. All the tropes are intensified to the point of coming off as a parody in a way. Andy fills the movie with recognizable situations if you read the book. Which as an audience member who is in the know it’s fun to watch, but from a story telling prospective some things don’t make sense. What could have been payoffs come across as deleted scene viewing because there was no setup in this movie or the 1st. As I’m watching, it’s my own mind that’s feeling in what is left out. The biggest problem with this movie is the fact that it chooses to follow the book so closely. The first chapter while not being perfect benefited from not completely following the books narrative. The book goes into Bat stop using inappropriate language crazy territory & it works because it’s a book. This movie begins to fall apart just a little because it’s trying to explain & show to much of what didn’t work in the book. The first chapter felt more like a fresh take on the source material. It Chapter 2 while being entertaining also feels repetitive, rushed, & misguided in ways. I walked out of the theater with a smile on my face despite knowing I just watched a sequel that didn’t reach the heights of its first movie. It’s not a home run but it is still worth a theater ticket! Letter Rating - B- Number Rating- 8.2
  14. Psychos May you all rest well, & wake stronger than before to take on the new day!
  15. Hollywood’s Hall of Horrifying Hell Chapter 2 It Chapter 2 is coming so I figured it was only right to revisit the 2017 horror juggernaut that was the first chapter. I viewed it a couple times in theaters & remember really enjoying the movie, but I haven’t watched it since then. Does it still hold up now that I have finished the book. Sometimes not knowing what they left out makes for a better movie viewing experience. Completely knowing the whole book now, I still believe it was wise of director Andy Muschietti to change the storytelling structure of going back & forth between adult & young losers to a more direct story. He does justice to most of the book’s strengths & bravely leaves certain things out that wouldn’t translate well on screen. The biggest thing being the consensual sexual train that is ran on one of the characters! All this gives his movie some distinction from the other works, & allows us to really get to know the Losers Club as children. They feel important because a considerable amount of time is given to there individual backstories. There interaction with one another & the harsh drama they have to deal with separately are more than enough to keep one engaged for the 135 minute runtime. I give much praise to the casting of the kids. Much is asked of them & they are more than able to convey an authentic experience of children dealing with the layers that come with growing up. But this movie is called It & I tell you what for as good as Tim Curry was Bill Skarsgård has without a doubt found a way to make the character his own. Even though the kids take up a lot of the screen time Bill is still very much the center of the film. He isn’t scary though which is unfortunate but that isn’t because of Bill’s performance. When left to play the character on his own Bill is creepy as hell, but the director chooses more cgi extensions over practical & has the score cranked up in scenes where it would be most effective if quieter. It feels like Bill has the least amount of screen time & he has to wrestle with cgi effects taking over his performance and he still manages to leave a huge impression. He is that good! Adaptations from books have long been proven to be very challenging. Andy Muschietti handles the task well. Despite leaning on horror tropes to much for my taste the movie is still a triumph in the right direction of how movie adaptations should be handled. Crafting a story around not just jump scares but an exploration of pain that adults turn a blind eye to & the effect pain has on innocence. It Chapter 1 is as good today as it was the day I saw it in theaters! Letter Rating - A- Number Rating- 9.2
  16. Hollywood’s Hall of Horrifying Hell Chapter 1 No trailer watched before hand, & only hearing a few positive expressions; I went into the theater with minor expectations. The title right off the bat gave away that this is a horror and I love the genre of horror. I also caught wind that Guillermo del Toro was a producer on the project which did give me less reason for concern. Walking into the darkness mostly clean of mind the only thought I had was “just how scary are these stories going to be”? Solid atmosphere, good tension build up & nice pacing allows for the movie to be engaging throughout. The characters are stereotypes which made me roll my eyes at first because it was made really obvious from the get go which character was which particular trope that we have seen time & time again. On the bright side the actors (with what little was given to them) are able to give a portrayal that makes them likable enough to where you are interested in what happens to them. You may not overall care or remember them after your viewing but in the moment you’re interested. The creatures are mildly creepy, & are most effective when practical effects are used. I found it difficult to take most of them serious because I’m able too tell they’re not real. The actual stories about the creatures are rushed through, with the payoffs being tame or dull. Unfortunately for the most part the creatures really are not the focus of the overall plot. The characters have a mystery to solve so the creatures are really nothing more than just hurdles for them to jump over. The film also has a political undertone that feels unnecessary. Politics is very hot button in America right now so I understand why one of the writers thought it would be a nice touch but it doesn’t effect the story at all & at times it feels mildly forced in. Instead of the movie focusing on flushing out the characters more it’s spending time reminding you of the creators political point of view. (Left: Director Andre’ Ovredal Right: Producer Guillermo del Toro) Not knowing anything about the director I was impressed with his ability to keep the suspense up, and make the most out of a screenplay that sometimes feels like there was to many cooks in the kitchen. I will be taking time out to view his other work. So how scary is Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark? Not really scary at all! Especially if you’re a connoisseur of horror like me. The title of the movie is kinda misleading because you really don’t get “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.” What the movie is offering is a more grownup Scooby-Doo like mystery. Which manages to be very entertaining throughout; I was in a positive mood leaving the viewing. So the movie is worth a watch. I believe this movie is best for younger viewers who are new to horror or movie lovers who are not super horror fans. Number Rating - 8.5 Letter Rating - B

  23. Unless the fans really make a fuss about it more than likely they probably won't. It's in our best interest to get the dvd set. Probably the only reason to own any new set is for whatever new extras come with it that's not apart of the old set. Aspect ratio of television shows & the process of how they are upgraded has been in ongoing thing. Purest are unfortunately in the minority, & companies prospective is profit over art.
