  1. "guri" has been my nickname mainly at the elementary school and the high school, it is derived from my surname. as this short name has been usually occupied in online services, i added there "008" as it is reference to james bond (that i like) and 8 is my favourite number 🙂

    g - gone baby gone

    u - (the) untouchables

    r - rush

    i - i, robot

    0 (zero) - zombieland

    0 (zero) - zombieland 2

    8 (eight) - elysium

  2. perfect challenge as many psychos share their movie stories. great reading 🙂

i have always loved watching films and having them at home on dvd was the best way to watch whatever i want and whenever i want. i started building my dvd collection when i was at high school. few years later i bought PS3 to have bluray player and i slowly began with blurays. this was the time of my university and shortly after that when i got married, started family, moved to our own flat etc - so there was never enough money. as i loved movies, i was looking for the best prices for the films i wanted and in 06/2013 i found website of filmarena. at that time they used to have regular videos about new films (mainly unboxing videos), they showed the versions of released films and this was the first time ever when i noticed something like steelbook. the first steelbook i ever bought was skyfall

    skyfall.thumb.jpg.fc2af139504e2b8c82046a236087647e.jpg

i believe this changed the direction of my collection as i started to look for the steelbooks also from other countries, usually via ebay. at that time steelbooks were appearing only sometimes here, not like in other countries. in 01/2015 i made and order in FA with my first premium editions - interview with the vampire and heat, but i wanted them mainly because of the steelbooks themselves.

    fac.thumb.jpg.f14091b2c9884d54a7a97fccb1de9b27.jpg

but when i saw the edition and the extra goodies, i was very surprised. again i turned to ebay to search for many films. here i found out that there are many international retailers that focus on premium editions. in the next months and years i have made some direct orders from several retailers (i think that argo was my first order from hdzeta (2017), constantine from mantalab (2016) and kill bill 1 (on the photo together with 2nd part) from novamedia (2017); i am not 100% sure about the years...)

    argo.thumb.jpg.720b9a81de12a461006b8da26f39225b.jpg

in the meantime i was still looking for some films that i was not able to buy when they were released (i didnt know about them, i didnt have money for them, i missed the preorders etc.) so ebay was very helpful. during the years i bought some films via this channel.

    ebay.thumb.jpg.496fe87f926e6e917d19dd968513028b.jpg

anyway, when i was looking for some information about new releases, i found MP website. i used to come here from time to time and read about the planned realeses or released titles (to see the actual photos, to find out what language is on the bluray etc). the moment i signed in was (if i remember correctly) the batman trilogy by hdzeta. these films obviously deserve the special treatment but on the other hand i had no experience with any group buy, the editions were very expensive and i was not sure if i ever see the editions (or my money back). i have seen plenty of risks, but finally, i decided to join this special community in 2018 and i dont regret it.

since that time MP became part of my breakfast ritual when i am working (from the office or from home), i almost always:
    - check the NHL results or other sports results
    - read the newspaper online
    - check the movie news from a local website
    - check MP to see whats new 🙂

thank you for being able to be part of this great community of psychos.

  3. wow! what a great challange @raylight! it made me go through all steelbooks and amarays one by one 🙂

anyway, i managed to get an upgrade on this challenge as i was able to find 5 different "vehicles", ALL of them are flying and ALL of them are from the kids films.

    • flying bike - e.t.
    • flying robot - big hero 6
    • flying dragon - how to train your dragon
    • flying plane - the little prince
    • flying carpet - aladdin

  4. ok, here are some extras from my collection.

    alien anthology

probably my oldest edition that was not amaray is "alien anthology" with 4 movies. the statue of egg with alien looks great IMO. now it has some shelf wear but i still like it. there is a light inside the egg so it can be switched-on in dark.

    django unchained

limited edition of 300 pieces. it has bluray steelbook, poster, character cards, stickers, comics and soundtrack. i am very glad for the soundtrack as many films deserves to have it included in the premium editions, but it rarely happens.

    tinker tailor soldier spy

great edition of the great film. it contains novel, notepad, playing cards, soundtrack (again!) that i put inside steelbook which i put into the edition. the sweet extra are onset photographs taken by gary oldman himself. wow!

    inception

special mention belongs to the spinning top from the briefcase edition. perfect connection of the extra with the film itself.

  5. hi,

here are my 5 editions. i dont say that they are my favourite, but they are somehow special for me.

    • ex machina - red pet slip made the whole edition really extremely nice and interesting. so simple 🙂
    • the godfather trilogy - because it is godfather... no more words are needed here
    • kill bill 1+2 - these need to be together as it is one film devided into 2 films. i love the brown colours
    • interstellar - because it was my first premium collection of one of the best directors in the history of cinema (and it closely didnt make the cut for the previous lenticular challenge)
    • predator - classic!

if "godfather" doesnt count as it is not from specific retailer, i can replace it.

  6. i usually prefer fullslips but some lenticulars are great. i prefer lenti with transition as from my point of view these can "tell the story" much better. i will use some examples from the  previous posts - bruce wayne transforms into batman, clark kent into superman, similar effect with terminator, ready player one, joker or eternal sunshine of the spotless mind. all of these (and a lot of other) can show what the movie is about, what happens there. and that is fantastic, i think, to express this with 2 pictures.

my personal pick-ups from my collection:

    1) the incredibles - how the normal family changes to the superhero family, great effect with direct connection to the film plot.

    2) spotlight - main title + main actors change into the newspaper article. wow!! i love that movie!

    3) a most wanted man - this one is minimalistic as it changes only small pictures on the right. these dont tell story by themselves but show some scenes/characters from this great and underestimated film.

  7. new arrivals from amazon.fr:

    • jurassic park 4k steelbook
    • the lost world 4k steelbook
    • jurassic park 3 4k steelbook

i really like these steelbooks. the older steelbooks were just black with small image on the front side - too lazy IMO. these new steelbooks are a bit better - with bigger picture and in colour. it is not perfect, but still a step up.

anyway, i have a couple of remarks:

    • i will never understand why the j-card has limited info about the languages; here the 4k discs had written only english and french but the discs have many more languages. i think that this lack of info can decrease possible sales
    • these 3 steelbooks have 6 discs totally (3x 4k + 3x bluray), 5 of them were moving inside when the package arrived!! i was able to play all three 4k discs so i hope they will not be damaged (they look ok)
    • the steelbooks were packed only in a weak cardbox but hopefully arrived safely
    • 1st and 2nd movie have a title "a steven spielberg film" above the picture on the front side, the 3rd movie does not; i understand that the name "steven spielberg" is much attractive than "joe johnston", but the consistency is lacking
    • 2nd and 3rd movie have the same artwork on 4k discs and inside the steelbook, the 1st movie has different artwork. i dont understand it as i believe there are plenty of artworks available also for 2nd and 3rd movie

but despite these remarks, i am very satisfied to have these steelbooks in my collection. i have jurassic world 1+2 in FAC, so i hope FA will release also the jurassic world: dominion to have the collection complete.

    Right here goes :D

Personally list them individually with a starting price he would be happy to let go but also generates great interest and hopefully a bidding war at the same time.

The rarer ones they will fighting over tooth and nail.

Also set the auction up for at least 2 maybe 3 weeks, that way people not checking in all the time will have a chance to bid.

And I would do 1 at a time in that order.

Also sell the rarest ones last after everything else.

I would also ship worldwide you then open up the market for deeper pockets. Like rich Americans xD

Also with all purchases full tracking and complete photos of them in the box and box sealed with tracking numbers on them that is part insurance for you and your customer

Also parcel insurance is a must value of the goods.

And put that in the listing no exceptions

Yes alot of work but should get you best price and cleared out at the same time.

Also set your prices to high to start with you limit people bidding

Get them on the hook let them fight it out sure you will win

Also allow for paypal fees and conversion rates is a must

    All the best

    Hope it helps

    Basil 👍

thank you so much for your ideas 🙂

all this depends on my friend's priority - to get rid of it or to make as much profit as possible. the best would be if all will be sold with a profit but that is not possible, i think. i believe that if he was selling it gradually (lets say 10 items each 1-2 weeks; when each week will contain 1, 2 or 3 fantastic items), the profit from these rare items will be higher than the possible loss from less attractive titles.

btw, today i counted how many editions were released by FA. i counted each edition that was available separetely to get (so e.g. "spider-man: homecoming" i counted as 6 editions - edition 1, edition 2, edition 3, maniacs box (= edition 4), edition 5A (steelbook only), edition 5B (steelbook only)) - it is 308 FAC and 37 BB (some small mistakes are possible :-)). it is a huge number!

    thanks again.

  9. hello, i have a question that i hope you might be able to help me with.

my friend has been collecting FAC almost since the beginning, until now he has almost all editions (i think that only "as above so below" and "wolf of wall street" are missing; but we need to check it carefully; not all of them have the same collecting number) + all black barons editions, all of them are sealed. now he decided to sell it completely. and here comes the question - how to do it? he will probably try to list it completely on ebay with personal pick-up only but i think that this would be extremely difficult to find such a buyer. i suppose that many collectors already have plenty of FACs and will not be willing to buy these editions again. another way is to list each items separately but this would require a lot of listings and decision if go with buy-it-now or auction (maybe this will depend on specific edition, some could be great for auctions). this would bring much more work (e.g. with shipping) and i believe that plenty of editions that are not so attractive will not sell.

right now he is not in a hurry to sell it quickly, so he may end up with listing it completely as 1 ebay listing and wait for several weeks/months and if it will not sell, he will try something else. 2 or 3 years ago he offered it as a set on some facebook page but he had no luck with it.

what would you suggest to do? thanks everybody for their opinion 🙂

I got the fr.Steelbooks from CeDe,so I have all Craig Bond Films uniformly

    good for you.

unfortunately, not even the amarays i bought had the complete info about the language - back side only mentions english, french and spanish, but it has multiple other languages, including czech (which is fine as slovak is not very common). and as i often watch movies with my family, local language is important for me. so if the seller dont have that info, i usually dont buy.

i found these french amarays on one local website where they mentioned that 4k has czech audio/subtitles, so it was not a blind buy.

additionally, skyfall was the first steelbook i ever bought so it has special place in my heart. i didnt want to replace this one, not even have the same film multiple times.

  11. a few 4k films arrived from italy. all of them have czech audio/subtitles 🙂

    • aquaman (i will put it into steelbook)
    • the accountant (i will put 4k into FAC)
    • the bourne supremacy (i already have the other 2 bourne films in 4k from the original trilogy)
    • sully
    • ready player one (the 4k disc from my mantalab edition is damaged, it stops/pixels in one part so i had to replace it)

    • godfather 1-3 4k 50th anniversary

very expensive. but with nice pictures of the main protagonists and nice book (but i have taschen book "the godfather family album" (check the last photo) so this one is not quite what i needed). i am not a fan of the discs put into the book. the whole collection is too big i think. i hope that one day 4k will be released as a premium edition in steelbooks.
