I watched Danny Boyle's 28 Days Later for the first time in over a decade last night. I had vague memories of it looking incredibly cheap (shot on miniDV) and not being very scary, and this watch reconfirmed those priors, along with the realization that it was really really good. Obviously the innovation of fast zombies kind of reinvigorated the genre? But some of the stylization and editing achieved with the mini digital video (that already looks like it's disintegrating into interlace) works so well for a film about the collapse of society. And the road trip section in the middle of the film is really fun and oddly beautiful, it weirdly brought to mind Gregg Araki's Doom Generation, maybe just in vibe. A pretty inspiring rewatch.

Hi all, I'm rollinbart1 from Los Angeles. I am a 29 year old wannabe filmmaker, but currently only make social media content for corporations. I recently bought my first TV as an adult (lol) and was only just getting into 4k UHDs before discovering this community. My collection is tiny but the Criterion 4k releases of Le Cercle Rouge and The Red Shoes were mind-blowing--I was immediately hooked and wanted to start collecting more premium steelbooks. That being said, my physical media collecting grail would probably be getting all the OOP non-remastered Wong Kar Wai blu-rays (especially Chung King Express, Days of Being Wild, Happy Together), as the not-great-quality torrented versions of those films were so important to me as a teenager. V excited about finding this community of enthusiasts and to meet you all!
