I will say, that semi-final between Real and City was an incredible watch, both legs were pure magic and really highlighted the spectacle of football.

Real Madrid can never be discounted in the Champions League, pure insanity what they managed to pull off. That goal line clearance from Mendy, Don Carlo’s brilliant tactics, the heroics from Rodrygo, just incredible. 
 

City and Pep bottled it, benching his players late thinking the game was sealed and ended up with little creativity at extra time. Even the commentators were billing an all English final with 10 minutes to go! Glad oil money hasn’t been enough for European success at PSG and City.
 

Hala Madrid! What a final it will be with Liverpool but this semi I’ll remember for a long time. What a great run for Real Madrid, Benzema deserves the ballon d’Or without a doubt.

What a match between Real and Chelsea, they’ve gone all out today. Hala Madrid 🎉

I mean, I can’t believe the quality of a non “premium” retailer like Funimation can make a better slip than Kimchi… The Dr. Stone LE box is beautiful!!!… That one surprised me a lot… It looks and feels Premium. 😎😎
 

I was definitely expecting something Premium with these and unfortunately we didn’t got it. 🥺😞

You’re 100% right! The LE boxes for each film are quality releases too that I hoped woulda been topped with these premium releases but just came out flat.

 

like the LE Your Name by funimation uses holifoil the way I expected these premiums to have.

and although GKids LE Weathering with You has no bossing, it feels so good to hold almost like velvet. 
 

For Dr Stone I settled for the steel release but I agree, the LE is beautiful for a studio release!

Weathering with You release from R'S Company is not strong, you could even say a disappointment 😪. Your Name from The On is good, but somehow I wished for more, these days Slips need to have some more finish. Still happy that both got WEA Premium Releases, even when Weathering does not feel that Premium.

I completely agree, although I’m happy to have the WEA steels for two great films, I was disappointed with the results.

R’s company FS had a great front cover choice but a little effort on the finish especially with the rainbow that’s there could have elevated it. Plus the slim slip surprised me and what I think is an age rating on the spine just ruined it. 
 

I love the FS art on Your Name by Kimchi, but if they put a little texture by boarding/bossing the two main characters and maybe the city horizon on the back it would have been perfect.

The SL Your Name I was most excited for, it’s such a perfect scene for a lenti. But to me, in my eyes, the effect just doesn’t come through very well on hand, just a slight fading. The colors on the back could have really popped with some extra treatment too!

It’s easy to forget with how spaced out match days are! Definitely an effort to keep track of mid week matches too haha 

Round of 16 is over and plenty of surprises to go around! Overall the knockout stage has been difficult to predict, especially considering how little points we managed to get out of it. With the Quarter Final draw approaching, here’s some of my thoughts on the results:

Bayern Munich - RB Salzburg

The second leg of this matchup was exactly what I expected in the first leg. Bayern Munich dominated with 7 goals, which in past years would be expected but inconsistency has plagued their domestic play of late.

Liverpool - Inter

Inter fought back and put a real scare into Liverpool with that second leg win, but luckily for them Sanchez killed all momentum with that red card.

Man City - Sporting Lisbon

This was sealed in the first leg, there’s no coming back from 5-0. Man City continue to dominate, but the goals will surely slow with tougher competition.

*Real Madrid - PSG

BEST OF THE ROUND OF 16. Absolutely stunning to watch PSG bottle a 2-0 first leg. A collection of record breaking talent on a single squad, PSG’s fall was poetic to watch. Although I had my tips going for PSG to win their first champions league, I should have tipped from the heart knowing Los Blancos would show up. Hala Madrid! 
 

Atletico Madrid - Man United

Atleti hang on to their one goal by a thread, United had all the momentum but not enough to equalize. Excited to see Atleti in the next round.

Benfica - Ajax

What an upset! Ajax, failed to capitalize on their dominant play in both legs. With a small window of opportunity, Benfica took their shot and stunned. 
 

Villarreal - Juventus

Another upset!! When it rains, it pours in Turin. After conceding the first penalty, Juventus broke down defensively and Villarreal took over. The 3-0 win comes as a shock as Juve looked in absolute control in the first half, creating some excellent chances but luck was not on their side.

Chelsea - Lille

An expected win for Chelsea, and probably my only full correct tip of the knockout stage, so thanks Chelsea for showing up after that penalty, ha. 
 

As the Champion League nears its conclusion, it’s great to see many of us still updating our tips on the tournament!  It’s gonna be a close finish after this long journey! Cheers Psychos!

Wait, De Bruyne has dropped off? I thought he was still up there with the best, although I haven’t noticed his recent form. I don’t follow Man City much but considering how stacked they are in the midfield and since they don’t really have a real #9, in Pep’s system everyone looks brilliant. 

Mo Salah is an absolute gem and one of the best players to watch. The way he can stop on a dime and curl the ball into the corner each time with precision is incredible. He among many others should be recognized at the best.

Plus everyone else is getting older while he’s not even in his prime. 
 

A few thoughts on the Round of 16 so far:

1. Mbappe is a sight to see, hope he makes the move to Real Madrid next year. What a statement last minute goal.

2. Man City keeps doing Man City things, goals-goals-goals.

3. Liverpool may be my dark horse to win this competition, gotta root for fellow Colombian and new signing Luis Diaz 🇨🇴
 

4. Bayern?! Lucky to get a point, unusual to see them off form, seems like the most surprising result given we all picked them to win. However, the youth and pace of RB Salzburg is so fun to watch.

5. For next weeks set of matches, I’m most excited for the Man U v Atlético draw, two big teams struggling to find their form this season should see each side take their chances!

I really hope The Mitchells vs The Machines takes best animated feature. That film was a gem, start to finish filled with incredible amounts of detail.

I managed to catch up on the tsunami of incredible Anime coming down the pipe in the near future (and currently) via Youtube vids, from my fave presenters (Mother's Basement, Gigguk and Glass Reflection) and to say we are going to be entertained, is the understatement of the year!

What an incredible assortment of titles that cover all genres, styles, interests and sequel addiction, heh.

I personally find viewing the vids of these Gentlemen extremely convenient, for bringing to my attention what's coming down the road and their brief synopsis (usually, uncoloured) are very informative.

Certainly there are others but not as dependable I'd suggest, for keeping their finger on the pulse.

 

Anime has grown so incredibly over the past few years (in NA & Europe), from a niche cult fave of a few, to immense success as an entertainment medium that appeals to a vast spectrum of folks.

Good timing I'd suggest also, since Hollywood is floundering right now, with no real direction in mind. They brought it on themselves though, giving little thought to original content and simply a focus on milking previous successes to turn a quick buck. I have no sympathy for them and can only hope that a few new Directors and Writers come to understand, that people are growing tired of their shtick and without new concepts and ideas, they will find other mediums.

We welcome those folks, with open arms!

 

Anime is a strange beast, to be sure, as it can provide incredibly mature and thought-provoking shows and yet still engage with the 13 year old horny/action junkie.

Fortunately, the palate is broad and we can easily select the shows that have meaning to us without concern for those that do not.

 

I do wish the price for the Blus were not as extravagant but sadly, that's a scenario that will not change anytime soon.

Fortunately, we have a variety of Houses that provide occasional sales on the intimidating retail prices.

Also, there's more often than not, a wonderful CE offered by someone, for some of the better shows, should one do the necessary hunting.

 

I have a few new treasures that I'm incredibly pleased with but I also have a fair amount in the mail on the way, so will wait a few days before tossing up a pic.

In the interim, please don't be shy about providing your own pics my Friends!

Although I tend not to collect TV series, I can’t help myself with anime. The nostalgia alone of some classics and instant classics is worth the price of admission. Happy to be here as long as the wallet allows, otherwise I’ll live vicariously through all your pickups!
