  1. Hey Psychos.

I was posed a question on a Facebook Group which gave me pause - "What is your favorite vampire movie?"  What I realized is that there are some fun vampire movies, but many are campy or do not live up to the hype associated with it, so we find ourselves celebrating exceptionally old classics or independent films that are known by a few.  This is my inquiry to you to find out what your favorites are.  I have to start by telling you the top of my list is actually on two lists.  Not only is it the best Vampire movie that I have seen, but it is also the best mocumentary that I have seen (yes - greater than This Is Spinal Tap and Best in Show).  Here goes my list, and I'd love to see your list.  If you don't love Taika Waititi after watching it, you're as soulless as the vampires of old!

    1. What We Do in the Shadows (2014) - the television series is a great companion to the movie

    2. Interview with a Vampire (1994) - Tom, Brad, Antonio, Christian and Kristen - what a cast!

    3. The Lost Boys (1987) - humor mixed with horror seemed to be a theme of the '80s

    4. From Dusk Till Dawn (1996) - I told my friend upon walking out of the theater that Clooney was going to be a big star

    5. Fright Night (1985) - childhood favorite - Charlie Brewster is a great name to add to the lore of vampire hunting

    6. Let the Right One In (2008) - the twist on this is tremendous - also see Let Me in for the Hollywood remake

    7. Fright Night (2011) - a GREAT remake - David Tennant as Peter Vincent is awesome; Anton Yelchin was taken too soon from us and Colin Farrell was DAMN good as a vampire

    8. 30 Days of Night (2007) - Graphic Novel adaptation with Josh Hartnett and Melissa George as the heroes; Danny Huston and Ben Foster are especially good - probably the most gore-filled film on this list

    9. Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1992) - Pee Wee Herman as a vampire - enough said - Joss Whedon probably should have directed - of course the series is a cult favorite and paved the way for other great series

    10. Near Dark (1987) - the other gore-filed one - Adrian Pasdar (Heroes & Agents of SHIELD), Bill Paxon and Lance Henriksen are the biggest names in it - it's an early project of future Oscar winner, Kathryn Bigelow

  2. Blinded by the Light - 7/10

This was a very good movie with a very good cast.  Not many that you'd recognized if you're used to Hollywood films.  It does have Peggy Carter's (and Captain America's) very own, Hayley Atwell with a smallish role.  The story is about youthful passions that are awaken by popular culture.  What was astonishing to me was the message about how certain themes are timeless - whether its Bruce Springsteen (or Bono or John Lennon or Bob Dylan or Stevie Wonder or Aretha Franklin) or whomever speaks to you, music and art are powerful drivers, and the modern messages interpreted by the reader, listener or viewer is powerful and has a cause and effect reaction.  Bruce sang about the hardship of the middle and lower class (especially those with dreams and vision) and this spoke Javed (or Jared) strongly.  A couple of scenes reminded me very much of (500) Days of Summer with the blending of reality and fantasy with a couple of musical/dance sequences.

That said, the movie treated those scenes as reality and may have prospered better with tongue more in cheek as it had with (500) Days.  The strength of this movie are the relationships of family and friends.  Though you could wait until it's on Blu-ray.  There's no problem seeing it in theaters.

  3. I've seen a couple of things recently and thought that I'd post them here.

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark - 7/10

All in all, it was very good.  The kids were great in it and the story was a fun mystery.  My only problems were that everything was wrapped up a bit to easily in the end and there were some questions that should have been left open - in the spirit of a horror film.  I was delighted that the gore was low - as I'm not a fan of high levels of gore.  It was deserving of the PG-13 rating and fun to bring tweens or teens to see.

Hey @Steelbook Indy, that is quite a journey for you with MP, can I ask why did you leave when you did?

You need to get ahold of @extantsrevenge for some awards of your BluFans & Manta, etc.!

Yeah my Tigers are a disgrace for me this year.

You have a friend in me!! :)

Hope you will enjoy your new time here now on MP (I just joined in March '19 myself)!!!

I mentioned that I’d share additional thoughts.  During my previous involvement with the site, I felt everyone was friendly and helpful.  I did have difficulty navigating the site and simply found myself using Blu-ray.com more often and fell away from here.  I also found that some of the group buy threads were left open when there were no longer spots left a couple of times.  Now it seems much better managed - as I read through forums.

Thanks for the comment and question.  I was on the site mainly to buy FAC - and decided to no longer collect FAC.  I can get Everythingblu and Manta pretty easily on my own and as a VIP with Kevin, I never miss a Blufans - so I just didn’t use the site as much.  There are a few other reasons that I’d be happy to share but heading out the door to see a movie

  7. This is a new reintroduction.  I've not been on in years.  I was here during the older web and forum interface, and was here shortly after the recreating of accounts for the new interface.  I recognize a couple of names here and would like to become more involved.  Tell me how.  Tell me now.

My name is Henry Jr. (nah just kidding - it's Jason).  Among my favorite movies are Inception, Raiders of the Lost Ark, What We Do in the Shadows, Shawshank Redemption and The Hurt Locker - to name a few.  I am in my late 40s, have been collecting since 2005 and have over 1000 Steelbooks and imported special editions on Blu-ray.  I have over 75 Blufans (including at least one edition of every Marvel title), every Manta Lab title except Man of Steel and every Everythingblu title.  I am looking into expanding into WCL and MLIFE (I have Manchester by the Sea, Jerry Maguire and Moneyball).  Love to get some more.

I have a son and a step-son, married for almost 6 years - this time.  I love the White Sox and movies.

I hope to make some new friends.  Please stop by and say, 'hi.'  Give me a like if you like the stuff that I do or would like to make a new friend.

Thanks for taking the time to read my nonsense, and should any of it interest you, send me a message to find out more!
