There is a crisis in the relationship between Peter Bowman (David Morse) and his wife Alice (Meg Ryan). The American engineer has been stationed in Colombia for far too long, and Alice longs to go home. But then Peter is suddenly kidnapped and taken into the jungle; the kidnappers demand a ransom of three million dollars. After all negotiations with the kidnappers fail, Alice takes matters into her own hands and is supported by the experienced kidnapping expert Terry Thorne (Russell Crowe). A deep bond develops between the two as they try to save Peter.

Inspired by a report by journalist William Prochnau about the difficult business of so-called "K&R" (Kidnapping & Ransom) experts and the book "Long March to Freedom", director Taylor Hackford created an exciting action thriller. Alongside Russell Crowe as Terry Thorne, Meg Ryan as Alice Bowman tries to save her husband Peter from the clutches of his kidnappers.
