And if possible, learn from them. The fact that someone has made a great effort is not a ticket to not receiving criticism, in any job. If you want to be professional, you have to play on those conditions. 

 

6) In an international context as heterogeneous as this one, and even more, with many people using automatic translators that can do terrible things, patience must be double. It is very easy for nuances to create the wrong impression. And also, culturally, the same messages can be taken very differently. Because, in addition, our sensitivities are different. This must be taken into account when writing, but also when reading.

7) In any business today it is crucial to listen to your customers. You can provoke needs, but you also have to know how to read preferences. And if the market asks for something else you will have to decide what is more important for you, to sell more, or to build a trench around your initial idea. This is also true for any working team. But you can be sure that in this life it is very important to learn to be pragmatic, and to think about objectives. Prioritise. See beyond.

😎 This is a community, it's not Amazon; and, moreover, it is a community that makes an important effort to maintain close communication with retailers, manage important GBs, have many exclusives, and even collaborate in the design of wonderful products for us. When we say certain things we should never forget that: it's a community, we're not talking to an Amazon telemarketer, not even to a nephew of Jeff Bezos hired at the price of gold. And it should all start with acknowledging that effort from everyone, both in what we say and we you say it.

 

9) That's why if someone at some point feels the need to say something that may harm the community directly, o which may affect its credibility, it's wiser and more appropriate to talk to the moderators or the boss first. I'm not just saying that this time, but in general.

 

10) In the end, this is all subjective, and that is not a bad thing. A community grows when it is able to exchange opinions. In my case, I have BR2049 MAG, it was very expensive but I bought it because I love the film, and it's another way to support the community. And ..... I did it without being enthusiastic about some things in the design, because, subjectively, I don't really link Blade Runner and the comic aesthetics of some elements. Blade Runner is not a comic book. In my case, I see more appropriate a certain elegant minimalism of other options, or a more "Vangelis" aesthetic, a realistic dream. Also, I didn't like that there was some almost empty folder and yet no space was left for a Steelbook, I think that was a mistake. Now we are going to have the CE with steelbook, and the BR2049 without. It could have been different.

But, even so, it's still a great edition, with lots and lots of good stuff. The mere fact of opening it, starting to take everything out... I love it. And the idea of the acrylic is magnificent, never better said. A very special and recommendable edition. 

 

And the design of this CE edition is the same for me; it has some very good things, but the "comic element", I still don't see it as appropriate. It's Blade Runner. But I understand that in this case it's about adapting to a previous edition, they are not free.

 

And what I have said, both the good and the bad, I have said in a polite, constructive way, and I hope that if someone from MAG ever comes in here and reads it, they will take it into account for future editions. As well CE team. Although, if you're a professional, you can't go crazy because of what anyone from the other side of the world says, even if it's me..., isnt't?

Thank you for your understanding of CE. I agree that CE should provide more explanations on design ideas to eliminate some possible misunderstandings. As for the "Blade Runner," a total of three designers were involved in its production, and the designer who created FS B was asked to create in the style of mag. Seeing the inspiration side by side certainly adds color to the conversation.  I completely understand the mission and, personally, I actually prefer the execution of FSB in BR than the original.

I think the reaction is less to do with Blade Runner than the utilization of the "floating heads" in so many CE releases.  Again, this is a legitimate and thoughtful design and creative decision, but some don't love it.

I think another issue is that you've been so effective in your title selection, picking titles that nearly EVERY member would want in their collection, there are more people who feel disappointed when the art isn't exactly what THEY would want.  That's not your fault, but something to keep in mind when you process the feedback.

Thank you so much @ZACKZZD - It's a special thing to have a representative of the retailer participate in a discussion about their releases and we very much appreciate it.  I am confident such dialogue will lead to even greater things.

I would love to add a few points from my perspective.

1 - I think it would be a great idea to be open to constructive criticism from any member - not just those who have purchased the editions like me.  There are some members who love the titles you have selected but not all of the artwork.   Of course you can never satisfy everyone, but our members are seasoned collectors of premium editions and are all your potential customers so I would think all of their view points would be valuable as well.  

2 - Perhaps it is a translation issue, but all opinions are by definition subjective rather than objective.  I can only tell you what I subjectively think and feel and try to avoid making assumptions about what others feel or think.  Instead I listen to what they do and say.  If you avoid any opinion that isn't objective, you are avoiding all opinions.  Again this is probably a translation issue.

3 - All of our opinions as customers will also by definition be based only on 'partial understanding of CE'.  We don't work for CE and CE doesn't - nor should they - share all of the specific decisions and issues they face when creating their releases.  This gap should not prevent members from giving their constructive feedback or opinions on releases.  If we are lacking information essential to sharing our opinions I'm sure our members would all welcome learning this information.

4- As a regular customer of CE products, I can say you are correct that CE's efforts on the quality of the releases is second to none.  These are extremely high quality releases and CE deserves a tremendous amount of credit for that.  Of course, it is a truism in social media - even on MP - that people are more likely to share when they have a problem than when they have something positive to say.   I'm sorry if that comes across as unfair or too negative, but it is an unfortunate reality of this form of communication and shouldn't prevent this dialogue from going forward.

Thank you and the entire CE team again for all you do to bring these high quality releases to us.  I look forward to the future.

yeah - really only way I know to do it is to rip the disc and add the ripped file and and a subtitle file to VLC and watch on the computer which is not my ideal viewing situation.
