Huh. What did I just see? Disk Kino selects titles that make me scratch my head.
With all due respect, it's not at all surprising Disk Kino would release this. Pema Tseden is among the most celebrated contemporary East Asian arthouse filmmakers, not least because he's a Tibetan, making films starring Tibetans, speaking Tibetan, about Tibetan culture; his work is important ethnographic expression at this historical moment, as encroaching modernity and Han politico-economic hegemony threaten to forever change Tibet as a place and people. I encourage you to look up his back catalogue, though be advised most of it is extremely slow and minimalist.

Stoked that Diskino is continuing to release these otherwise hard-to-see contemporary Chinese films.

Maybe they’ll do a plain edition after if there is a demand for it.
That'd make my year.

Excited to see this! Early Chen Kaige and supposedly stunning Yunnan landscapes means this is a must-have for me.

Also found out about this yesterday after the DVDbeaver review. Bummed I missed it, but glad it pointed me in the direction of this community. Hopefully Diskino continues to distribute blu-ray editions of these previously unavailable Chinese classics.
