Marvel vs DC !

OOOOOOW trying to start a war are we? lol!

For me I'm a fan of both camps and in recent years with each company having off shoot labels and titles, the differences between the two has all but gone.

Spider-Man was my all-time favourite character since childhood, but in my adult years Harley Quinn has slowly removed him down to second place, both very different characters from both companies.

I don't think either of them wins outright anymore with many artists and writers working for both, its down to the type of book or characters you prefer. DC has in general always had a darker tone and more conflicted characters generally read by older readers, where Marvel on the surface has always been more child friendly and colourful. Its only in more recent times that Marvels early work has been looked at in much greater depth to see they were far ahead of their time dealing with outsiders, sexuality and issues now very much news worthy that back in the 60/70's were still subjects regarded as taboo or in some cases such as Homosexuality being illegal. The Marvel mutant was very much a metaphor for looking at being different which we all are and learning to accept and deal with it. I think both camps have great characters and stories, but I do know that just like Star Trek/Star Wars, there is an us and them when it comes to these companies by the nerdy Sheldon Coopers of the world that take it deadly seriously. For me personally I think both companies offer great escapism and I don't really see a quality difference in the books, the films on the other hand are a different matter though.

Thanks for excellent post. My childhood favorite was Spidey too. Others loved X-men or Fantastic 4. Spider-Man movies have been HUGE let downs for me :( All !!!. I never cared for DC except for ...yes - Batman.

Easy WIN to DC for me .

The Bat , Constantine , Watchmen ,  V for Vendetta .

Much Darker Much better in my lowly opinion.

Movie wise I find Marvel to SAFE .

Thought they did a good job with Dr Strange .

How they all link in its a massive 591c21d796784_images(19).jpg.4562fa31fe482166f1890209f84a8210.jpg I get board of the milking .

@psychoscot @Scary Hair To be honest - I don't associate V-for vendettea, Watchmen and Constantine as DC characters. And it's wrong I know. Those were not around here as I was a kid. Only Superman, Batman, Flash, ... When  I first time read Watchmen I about 25 and it was in English. Friend brought it from UK. We did not think it either DC nor Marvel franchise at the time.

Comic scene was so lame here. When I was a kid. It was actually huge thing that my mum subscribed Amazing Spider-Man from USA !!!

I like it. And it does happen in DC movies too. FYI !!!!

Not as much as yet I dont think .

I havent seen Batman Superman yet waiting for free to air LOL , as I can not get my head round Superman at all .

I find him tedious hes the only one of DC's that I find that way strange  I know.

I always have found him boring as long as I can remember.

Where as I find almost 90% of Marvels tedious .

Technically the films Ann mentions aren't DC originated. They are independent imprints owned by DC but they aren't "DC" characters. So you are right @nefilim they can't be classed as DC films, sorry @Scary Hair. DC films are the ones now being made by Snyder and company. A comparisson would be Miramax studios who are owned by Disney, it doesn't make Pulp Fiction a Disney film.

As to your previous reply @nefilim I have to agree 90% on the Spider-Man films with you. I DETEST the Raimi versions with a passion, the casting was just wrong. Tobey is terrible and Dunst isn't good looking enough to be Mary Jane whos supposed to be an utter bombshell and a model, they also tried to make him a bit too goody goody like Superman, which in the comics he definitely isn't. When it came to the next series I must admit thats where the 10% comes in as Garfield was excellent and was pretty much perfect and what I wanted for the character especially for those who read the 90's/ early 2000's McFarlane books. Stone was great and spunky as Gwen and I did think when the action came and this time we got a sarcy little sh*t just like the books when hes fighting it made me smile, but the effects especially in the first were poor, it didn't need another origin story, there wasn't enough action and it just felt muddled script wise. The second I actually enjoy and have watched a few times. The tone and effects are great, the soundtrack is stunning and the banter between Parker and Gwen keeps it moving along even if the villians are a bit naff. I was impressed they killed Gwen and remarkably was able to keep that from leaking in the press before release, it certainly packed a punch. .... but thats only 10%. They have yet to make what I want from a Spider-Man film and this new one looks RUBBISH!

How many women admit when they are wrong 1f602.png1f602.png.

There's women that admit they are wrong????? Where where??? ?

I will admit there's one Superhero I'm not a fan of .... Superman. Don't like the comics, not a huge fan of most of the films although I did like what Snyder did. He's too squeaky clean and goody goody for my tastes, which is why I liked Snyder's take as he removed some of that. The end battle had huge collateral damage when he went after Zod and he didn't hesitate for a second.
