Suggestion Regarding Forum Layout

Hi there!

 

Hopefully I'm not too out of place posting this here as I am rather new and maybe I'm not clearly seeing the reasons for some of these! Anyways, I thought I'd go ahead and just post some thoughts on things I've seen in regards to the front page of the forum that may help in cleaning things up a bit and making it easier to navigate. Feel free to shoot down any of this, maybe some of these are already in the works or being thought about, but obviously these are just my thoughts!

 

1. The layout of the main forum page. I feel the way the sub forums are organized are a little confusing. This is first and foremost a steelbook/media forum, so I think having the "Prime Psycho Asylum" for Gold/Silver/Bronze members at the top might be a little out of place. Same with the "Mediapsychos Advanced Membership" info sub-forum. I think both these sections would serve to be better placed towards the bottom. Or, another option would be to move the "Information to Membership Tier" sub-forum under the "Introductions to the Asylum" section. But the "Prime Psycho Asylum" section I think should definitely be either last or second to last on the forum as the members who are a part of this section and use it are regular members who would know where to go to access this. 

 

"Introductions to the Asylum" should definitely be at the top of the forum directly after the "Announcements" section obviously for new members to access. Next up, as said before, this is primarily a Steelbook/media forum, so after Announcements and Introduction sections, I think should be the main "Steelbooks" section followed by the "Groupbuys" section. I also feel having a separate Video Games Steelbook section is a bit redundant. As it is now, the Video Game Steelbook section also feels a little off as it has separate sections for "PS4" and "PC" but all other systems are I guess put into the "Other" sub-forum. I think deleting this section and just putting a simple "Video Game Steelbooks" sub-forum under the main "Steelbooks" section which would serve for ALL video game steelbooks no matter which medium (PS4, xbox, PC, switch, etc) would be best! This would also serve to clean up the front page a bit with one less section.

 

Another area that could be moved would be the "International Chat" section. This could be moved into the "General Chat" section as a sub-forum, and each language with it's own sub-subforum in that sub-forum.

 

To spare anyone from having to read a book about me justifying every section, I think it'd probably be best if I just showed an example of what I think the front page organization would be best as:

I've highlighted some of the things that I moved around. Hopefully this isn't too hard to understand as google docs was the only thing I could think of to use for an example layout.

 

Sorry if this causes any confusion, I didn't want to go into too much detail or else I'd have written a whole book. If you have any questions or feedback in response to this suggestion, then I'd definitely love to hear it!

@Sheikah Be it whether your suggestion will be used, I applaud your initiative ?

 

Instead of complaining about how confusing it may have been for you while exploring, and I know you did really explore, you posted your suggestion so positively! This is what MP really loves in new members!!

Firstly, welcome Sheikah. Nice to see you also decided to support MP by taking up a Silver Membership.  ?

 

Secondly, I think you make some good points. These things are always subjective to a certain degree. But, tidying up the "front page" would be a good idea, in my opinion.

There are always particular sections that need to be highlighted at certain times. Having too many sub-forums, can make that difficult. 

I'm not sure about the "Games" section of MP. I have to admit I never read it unless I'm tagged in a particular post.

The "language rooms" are an important area in my opinion. More so for French and German members to be able to speak freely in their own language. Without the need for Google Translate.

 

Lastly, although it is predominately a Steelbook forum, as the name suggests we want it to be an all "Media" inclusive forum. Especially as we are working very closely with new Chinese companies to bring more and more BD Slips and Special Editions.

 

I would suggest that John and Chad discuss this further, and maybe make some alterations. They are the ones that spend most time in the system. Thus making it their baby really. 

Plus of course, it is Johns Forum afterall. So his is the final decision on these matters. ?

 

I really appreciate you taking the time to raise these points. It is always helpful to receive feedback about every aspect of MP.

My  2 Cents.

 

• Anime could be moved from Collectibles to either Movies and Tv series or Exchibit your Collection.
• Maybe collect all games (film game, song title game, emoticon film game etc ..) under same (maybe new) thread.
• Leave international chat as it is ... as DD noted, very important.
• Maybe lift The Books from Chit Chat to front page like Music. Many of us read alot and many movies are based on books. And looks a bit silly as it's now ... IMO.

John @Masterblaster why am I being signed-out of MP (if not active at the moment) if I’m signed-in on MP, but I’m not active on the pages of MP at the moment on my iPad (I’ve NEVER been signed-out before if I’m not active on MP, i.e. if I’m looking at a different forum but still want to be signed-in on MP to come back later at my privilege 🧐 )... is this something NEW from MP? 🤔

The Automatic Login will happen under these TWO circumstances . 

 

1. You have checked the REMEMBER ME box when logging in (within the last 3 months)

 

AND 

 

2.  You have not logged out on that device since. 

 

If one or both of these requirements are not met you will not be able to have the Automatic Login.

Thank You for that John @Masterblaster, I was not really talking about automatic logins though... I was talking about when I login first thing of the day on MP  and let’s say I scroll a different forum during the same day,  then I come back to MP on the same day,  MP has logged me off even though I have not signed-out for the day! 🤷‍♂️

John @Masterblaster I’m still being locked-out periodically throughout the day if I’m not on here constantly (yes, I have the only checked-marked I know) & this ONLY started recently & it is just MP’s site, as I’m not signed-off on any other sites that I’m on even when I leave them for several hours...

 

what do you think is the problem & can it be fixed (I’m getting tired of having to sign in several times a day & being locked-out for several minutes before I can sign in again)? 🤔
