Iron and Steel

My first steelbook was from Future Shop here in Canada.   Back then, there was this little movie called Iron Man, and when the steelbook came out I thought "this is a fitting movie to have a steel case".  I didn't know much about steelbooks back then, I just thought that they were a passing fad.  As a matter of fact I thought it wouldn't last because these things were thicker than a regular Blu-ray case and would quickly take up a lot of room.

 

Nonetheless, I bought two copies, thinking it might be collectible someday.  A few months later, still thinking this was a fad and I better cash in when I can, I sold both on eBay for the measly amount of $50 (for the copy that I opened), then $80.  I thought I struck it big!  ??   I stuck with regular blu-rays since.

 

Fast forward a few years later, my best friend gave me some steelbooks that he didn't want any more.  I didn't want them either, so I did some research on eBay to see how much I can sell them for.  To my surprise, not only were there hundreds of steelbook listings, but the prices were insane!   So, out of curiousity, I looked up the Future Shop Iron Man steelbook.   Needless to say I was blown away by how much it was going for.  I was so full of regret. ?

 

So, I slowly went back into steelbook collecting.....checking every so often if I could find my first-ever steelbook at a reasonable price.  A couple of years into my steelbook hobby, I chanced upon an open copy of Iron Man on eBay with a slight imperfection, and it was the cheapest I had ever seen it at.   I immediately jumped at the chance, and now, it proudly sits on display in front of my more recent (and in some cases, more expensive) steelbooks.  As they say, there's nothing like your first love.  ❤️
