@ethnosax Thank you for the challenge.

Here my selection

1. Tron Legacy. Its simple due to the technical and acting possibilities (like effects, cast, score). I really like Tron Legacy.

Psycho_Challenge11_1.thumb.jpg.27cab5a584c9ed61242bc1827ed6c5e1.jpg

2. Back to the Future II. Great sequel with appealing story and humour. Overall for me a little bit better than the good BTTF.

Psycho_Challenge11_2.thumb.jpg.b7b946bdc921e63fdc95a4676340c0b0.jpg

3. Terminator - Judgement Day. Simple the best part of the series. The effects (like the morphing of the Terminator) were never seen before in this quality.

Psycho_Challenge11_3.thumb.jpg.fddf6adf60ce8806f938097edcd2db28.jpg

4. Star Trek - Into Darkness. Brilliant sequel with incorporation of an important character from the original series and good story telling. Including of B. Cumberbatch was one of the best decisions for the Kelvin-timeline series

Psycho_Challenge11_4.thumb.jpg.60b186c573a5da001d692ed78702e56b.jpg

5. Top Gun - Maverick. I did not expect that Maverick could top the origin Top Gun. But, this movie is entertainment at its best. For me Maverick is one of the best movies 2022, which might be only topped by Avatar II.

Psycho_Challenge11_5.thumb.jpg.5beb7dcb012f898513e5a6dccedf5685.jpg

I would like to have a sequel of Accountant or Wall-e. 😄

Kind regards, Wolfgang

Week 11 already and @ethnosax what a challenge  and nice to read why the better than the  first  so  my choices are

20221126_113836.thumb.jpg.83b310fd01f9c9cb3de7ef516a52b59f.jpg

Mad Max The Road Warrior Where to start about the Why this is my top pick for the sequel better than the 1st .

From the very start a masterclass in how to make a movie not only believable and engaging.

The black and white footage with the voice over then leading to the hellish future Max must negate and still have an once of good in him is where the strength in Road Warrior is .

John Wick Chapter 2 A far better performance from Keanu  as he deals with his wifes passing and being dragged back into the world he faught so hard to leave . I almost got thrown out at the Cinema as I yelled at Winston saying Jonathan. Shame about JW Chapter 3 i was so disappointed in that ( apart from the horseback and bike chase THAT WAS GOOD ) I won't be rushing to see Chapter 4

Star Trek Into Darkness EACH cast member fully took on the iconic crew , add an on form before he got big headed Cumberbatch to the mix and what a sequel.  Zachary Quinto hell i was helping with each punch .

Predator 2 Not much Jungle  where we live so the fact that thus was set in an urban area OMG I was

looking over my shoulder fir weeks after seeing this. Danny Glover was a worthy successor to Arnold.

a true under rated Cinema heavy wight .

Die Hard 2 Now this again is a big call . Part of that again is how Bruce Willis truly  takes on the role of John Mclanne

The fact that Mrs McClane is on a plane with the journalist that endangered her kids and she is as bat stop using inappropriate language as her husband well let the good times roll .

DREDD WE NEED THIS EXPANDING ON WITH Carl Urban as Dredd

years and years ago thire was talk of a sequel  then a TV series I DONT CARE WHAT IT IS I WANT AND NEED MORE .

Why because it was an intelligent, action packed movie that needs to be in anyone's top 10 movies.  If I'm given any chance to rewatch  Dredd  I'LL TAKE IT

CHALLENGE #11: IT IS HAPPENING AGAIN

Sequels … ok then , thanks to @ethnosax  for this fun little challenge…fun I say , this is downright difficult tbh … there’s so many film franchises out there all with either crap , pretty descent or total blockbusters, I myself like all genres of movies .. except musicals …🤮… so to choose 5 favourite is waay to difficult so to start with I’m going with the usual suspects .. to get them out the way here they are ..

  1. Terminator 2 : Judgment Day -Bigger, bolder and action galore in Camerons Blockbuster sequel and quite rightly so too..

C7D4DB51-088A-4488-B4EB-8444F043899B.thumb.jpeg.313e3a2bcb338a4c54f8cf3cfbac7d96.jpeg

2.  Aliens  - Again Bigger bolder and action galore in another blockbuster sequel…

594BB1AE-93B2-47CB-AF34-826441ABB528.thumb.jpeg.1058dfe6d0a3806534587eae34c5d680.jpeg

3.  Bladerunner 2049  - A fantastic sequel to the greatest movie ever imho .. it delivered after 35 years …

B081ED6C-4724-42B1-9E00-DE98A87C70E2.thumb.jpeg.931d9903a171fe18ba556d1193c0cd0d.jpeg

4.  Top Gun : Maverick - Probably the most anticipated sequel ever and boy did this one deliver the goods … it lived up to the hype and rode it into cinematic history as the biggest grossing sequel ever … this one took Billions …

F49A1B48-8666-4E88-B26C-696001470020.thumb.jpeg.14481fc7aab4367a0015156b5c85b4f7.jpeg

5.  Bad Boys 2 -  Again much better than the original which was great too but way louder and with more action than before …

94866FD1-2FC3-4A5A-9C95-C0FD8CEA9B32.thumb.jpeg.5c45e35a32f6da8d891e29ecbdf7bf6e.jpeg

As a bonus , lets not forget the lesser titles, I’m adding another 5 random franchises just because …

Heres an alternate selection or movies that although weren’t blockbusters they deserve a mention because of their extention of the story and were also fun…

 1. Deadpool 2 - Loved this sequel as much as the original… carried on the story and added much more to continue the franchise…

2. Saw 2 - “There will be blood 🩸…” from the linear storyline of the first outing part 2 continues the genre with Jigsaw playing his little games .. to great effect….

3. Mad Max 2 : The Road Warrior- Needs no introduction , way better than the original and full on action …

4. Friday 13th Part II -  just because its Jason…

5. Final Destination II - continues the first ones theme of offing students who cheated death  good fun and gory kills … just what the doctor ordered…

Theres tons more to mention but …..the list is long

Hellbound Hellraiser 2 , Ghistbusters 2 , A Quiet Place 2 , Sicario 2 , MI : 2 , Die Hard 2 Predator 2 ……..ad infinitum…

A movie that deserves a proper sequel … John Carpenters The Thing … what really happened after they blew up the compound … cos after all I’m pretty sure one  of them was the thing …

My attempt at challange #11.  "It is Happening Again"

Deadpool 2.  I thought this film was great in every way that the first one was. More action and a great introduction to cable. Adding him was an excellent choice.

20221126_104645.thumb.jpg.cf806f2b9b625b6e7a8378f22b07fba9.jpg

John Wick 2.  What else is their to say more guns more action. Not loved bye everyone but still I like.

20221126_104629.thumb.jpg.ea79d4bff0a2e262cfd9c8ee4942f824.jpg

The Raid 2.   This movie upped the ante in heart racing action. Better fight scenes better movie.

20221126_104558.thumb.jpg.ea63f52e5582a2b57fa221fc18ef1162.jpg

X-men 2.      Some say this is the best movie of the franchise. I can agree. It took what the first one did and did it better.

20221126_104717.thumb.jpg.9a63ef3316eeb0e80fa457a71bb0993a.jpg

Wonder Woman 1984.   Ok. So this is not better than the first,  but still it had some good attributes.  Kinda bad villain. 👎   Gal Godot was in it so there's that. I thought the kid played his part great. 🤔

20221126_104705.thumb.jpg.ff3302c42630948aab6c1aec77af6288.jpg

The movie I would love a sequel to is. OBLIVION. 20221126_104731.thumb.jpg.09a2ed3aa8f51b58832e8fa75f124654.jpg

.I want to see more of this world. You could expand on the ending. What happens after they meet at camp. Maybe there is another threat. All kinds of things can happen. Their struggle with being the only ones left with this damaged earth.

Thank you @ethnosax

Challenge 11

1. Indiana Jones and the last crusade.

This is my favourite out of the series narrowly beating out raiders. The chemistry between Ford and Connery is great, the plot was good and the action scenes are some of the best in the series.

1957BF1E-1394-4316-AAB6-65C156D4CF11.thumb.jpeg.935667b8139fbc42f9e72012811c5f46.jpeg

2. Scream 2

It’s really close with number one for me but this movie is scarier, funnier, and there's some character development and the cop car scene is one of my favourites in the franchise.

73AFF6EA-D3E0-4BD4-ACA3-43D8BD947913.thumb.jpeg.fcd8778d424ee9819e7ac23a0dcae175.jpeg

3. Bad Boys 2

Number one is better but I think Bad Boys 2 has bigger and better action scenes.

BE98C412-54B7-4FEF-AD42-3FA1F774E9CA.thumb.jpeg.61be083fdda8bff205930794d424a9d6.jpeg

4. Spider man no way home

The action sequences were awesome and bringing past characters into was a great idea.

DCE4E4EE-0A7A-4BC4-A0FB-7B87B68FC375.thumb.jpeg.cef60dc0aa40d100eafc0191becb0d00.jpeg

5. Nightmare on elm street 3 Dream warriors.

The best of sequels for me and a personal favourite. The deaths scenes are epic and some of the one liners are brilliant. I hope one day they do this in 4k.

3E318810-DB00-4447-9426-0410BD023CC2.thumb.jpeg.5c22cce5675b84716e8e4919a82f366c.jpeg

Movie that needs a sequel got to be Spaceballs sadly it’s been too long for one to come now. It wouldn’t feel right without the same cast members.

Hello ! late but not too late for challenge #011: IT IS HAPPENING AGAIN !

Thanks to @ethnosax for this challenge idea !!! 😎

I went through my collection and tried to combine this challenge also with the wish that there will be Premiums for these movies in future.

Of course I could also post the legends like Alien, Terminator etc. but I wanted to find some "new ones".

here we go.

IMG_8226.thumb.JPG.a39a9d9cebc253b13078f54d6a6a8151.JPG

#1: Naked Gun (Nackte Kanone)

I think everybody who is interested in movies has already seen a movie with legendary Leslie Nielsen as Special Agent Frank Drebin. 😎👍

This one HAS TO BE released as Premium in future. its a must !!!

"cigar?" "yes, i know !" no more words to say. 🤣

#2: Transporter

Pure action. put the pedal to the metal ! Also worth for me to be released as Premium.

#3: Ice Age

I love lazy/stupid Sid. Best animation movies in these years and part 2 was even or more entertaining than part one. Also a pity that we never got Premiums of these legendary animation movies about Sid and his friends solving adventures in their lives in dinosaur times. 👍😃

#4: Oceans 12

I love these kind of movies where a gang plans the big robbery with special abilities, machines etc. You go directly on the side of the thieves not thinking about good or bad. They are always the "good bad guys". 😉😎

Also worth a Premium...

#5: Despicable Me / Minions

Ok, this is a MUST for me as a little Minion. 😁😇

Everyone likes the film and little yellow beans. If I'm informed right, the Minions movies are the most successful animation movie series ever.

Happy So Excited GIF

And I wish that there will be another "Zootopia/Zoomania" movie.

So here we go: "challenge #11"

1. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom

- This sequel has an amazing taste of humour and one of the best "car-chase-scene" in a mine!!!

2. Police Story II

- This sequel put action to a new level, the stunts are - till today - absolutely amazing and unbelievable.

The showdown is looking for a match and the explosion at the end - totally crazy, because it was all real!

3. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

- Best IMAX scenes implemented in a movie at that point.

Great fight with the biggest Transformer!

4. Star Trek: Into Darkness

- As the remake finally managed to interest me, as a big Star Wars fan, in Star Trek, this sequel caused some goosebumps, when Khan talks about revenge.

So this kind of acting was new for me in a Star Trek movie!
Always thought, that the acting in the old movies is a little bit too much and kind of "cheesy".

5. Crank II: High Voltage

- Is there more to say, what "High Voltage" doesn't imply?

This movie is f*cking hilarious and totally entertaining and craaaaaaaaazy!

I thought about a lots of movies, who deserves a sequel and ended up with 4, but if I've just choose one, it will be Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters!

1. Ghost in the Shell

- Amazing look, character, actress and fantastic story.

One of my favourite Manga stories got real. And they totally nailed it!

2. Valerian

- Luc Besson at its best!

Humour, Action, and crazy look!

"French" Sci-Fi entertainment!

3. Terminator: Salvation

- I loved the way, they developed and renewed the story and totally liked the characters.

Don't get me wrong, I like part 2 as well, but Arnie is such an baaaaaad actor and always a bit funny (not on purpose!).

Would have loved to see way more of Bale and Worthington and how the story goes on.

Finally a Terminator Movie with some people, who can act and make some noise at the same time!

4. (AND THE ONE, I'VE CHOOSE TO BE THE ONE!) Hansel& Gretel: Wich Hunters

- Stunning idea to put these old fairy tales on the screen!

Hell, what an amazing ride, wich left a lots of opportunities to tell more...

Challenge 12:  The Directors.

This week we would like you to show 3 different movies from your 3 Favorite directors.  Keep it fun and mix it up.

george lucas dream GIF by South Park

All formats are welcome. Beta anyone.

In addition, Please indicate your favorite movie from said director, film does not need to be included in the pictures.

Also, if the director has released something that you just despise, spill the beans.  (Not mandatory)

I'll start if off.

Ill begin with Christopher Nolan.  From the first time i saw Memento to Tenet,  One of my favorite directors over the last two decades.  Favorites are Tenet and Interstellar.

20221127_080928.thumb.jpg.92112684018f2cbf42c853e172387df4.jpg

Next,  We will move to Ridley Scott.  Hard to deny one of the best sci-fi directors around.  Favorite of mine, Kingdom of Heaven - Directors Roadshow cut.

20221127_132618.thumb.jpg.861dabbe4582967be196f31afcb41487.jpg

Finally.  I am going to choose Edgar Wright.  One of the better writers currently out there.  Loved his films.  Favorite,  Hot Fuzz, Close second, Last Night in Soho, really enjoyed that movie since it came out last year.

Challenge 11

94E287CE-66C6-4C15-9E96-AB24D2AEF1D8.thumb.jpeg.72fe725375dbe97a2412b71e38907fbe.jpeg

1. Beverly Hills Cop 2. For my money, Tony Scott’s direction and action set-pieces are an improvement over the first film.

2. Blade Runner 2049. Beautiful cinematography gives this sequel an edge in the stunning landscape and shot composition department.

3. John Wick 2. Erm… here’s where I admit, I actually haven’t seen any of the John Wick movies yet and blind bought them all when I got my 4K player… 😬 My copy of the first one didn’t come with a slip, but part 2 did, so that’s an improvement, I’d say! I also really like the colors on the artwork over the first one. 🤣

4. Mission Impossible 2. What makes this one better than the first? Obviously Tom Cruise’s luscious flowing locks! 😂😂😂 In seriousness, I do dig the concept of the chimera virus, and John Woo’s handling of the flick’s action scenes. I just wish he’d have been allowed to be more unrestrained and not so locked-in with the constraints of a big budget PG-13 Hollywood summer blockbuster.

5. Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. Literally everything about this movie makes it better than its dull predecessor.

As far as which movie deserves a sequel? I’m gonna go with Hellboy 2! It’s a crying shame we never got to see the third film in del Toro’s trilogy, IMO. Universal really dropped the ball there…and audiences, too, since they couldn’t justify the financial commitment for the grand finale.

Challenge 12

The directors!

1. Christopher Nolan

4FD5CED8-9ADA-4577-B30B-C2A5C6E321B2.thumb.jpeg.acf1c2e0fc09d68a364c264ebf1ec4e8.jpeg

Favorite: The Dark Knight! Memento is definitely up there, too. I really need to upgrade that one at some point…

2. Steven Spielberg

984ECF93-CFFF-45F9-913B-5522394BD648.thumb.jpeg.fe138b3540900923604bf9f78ed305aa.jpeg

Favorite: Jaws, hands-down. Spielberg has made some true classics, and I think each of these three pictured above count as such.

3. Quentin Tarantino

Favorite: Pulp Fiction, for sure. Honestly, I love each of these three here. Still in the to-watch pile: Django Unchained, Hateful 8, and Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. Man, I’ve got some catching up to do. 😭

Thank you @bossjon for Challenge #12.

Since I assume most submissions will be for Directors of live action, I'm using this challenge to highlight 3 incredible Anime Directors.

I'm going to start with my favorite Director even when I include all live action directors. The one and only Hayao Miyazaki. I will include a picture I made for our cool Otaku Award (check it out here). Here you can see my Japanese Blu-ray Boxset with all his 11 featured films and my CD Box with the music to his 10 Ghibli Movies.

As his first Movie The Castle of Cagliostro is a Movie for the Lupin Anime Series I don't care that much for it. Anyway the 10 movie run that followed after with the creation of Studio Ghibli is for me the best run any Director has ever made. Nausicaä, Castle in the Sky, Totoro, Kiki, Porco Rosso, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle are all 10 Point Movies (and 5 I consider as Masterpices), Ponyo and The Wind Rises are a little weaker with 9 points but still great movies. Nobody can create such wonderful standalone movies like Miyazaki. His Animation style is simply so beautiful and the Stories and characters he creates are so wonderful. Also don't forget he also directed one of the greatest Anime Series ever with Future Boy Conan and was part of the Team on the early World Masterpiece Theater Series like Heidi, Anne of Green Gables and others.

My favorite movie from him would be Princess Mononoke. To be honest his movies should be part of any movie collection, as his level of greatness is unparalleled by any other director.

736254865_MPOtakuCollector3.thumb.JPG.aa3aa43b6582156d4dad5d0499bfcd70.JPG

Next I want to feature the sadly already passed Satoshi Kon. As he has only done 4 Movies and 1 Series I have included them all (see below). He was an extremely talented director who created such great stories paired with stunning visuals. I rated all his work with 10 points. My favorites would be Perfect Blue and Paranoia Agent (the Series).

I think he would have given us some more wonderful work if he had not died so early. Check these out if you have the chance.

454136863_Challenge122.thumb.JPG.b32021941e36feedc791a0cf914d0fbe.JPG

Next I want to feature the new star when it comes to Anime, the great Makoto Shinkai. I think he is the only one that is able to fill the void left by Miyazkis semi retirement (a new Movie is supposed to come 😍).

The Animations created by Shinkai for his projects are so breathtaking it is unbelievable and then they are paired with great stories. My favorite would be Children who Chase Lost Voices (as it reminds me a lot of Ghibli & Miyazaki), also featuring Your Name and Weathering with You. I can't wait to see his newest Movie Suzume no tojimari, which has just came out in Japan.

1622354422_Challenge123.thumb.JPG.c721a9e47a25f664687179375340b867.JPG

I always have the feeling that Anime are still so much underappreciated by the general viewer. They have so much to offer and are often so much better than almost all the Animation coming out of Hollywood.

Hi @bossjon and thanks for this challenge.

There are so many great directors to choose from. I have chosen three directors who imho havent made a single bad movie so far.

These are my 3 favourite movies from these directors:

Andrey Zvyagintsev:

his debut, The Return blew me away. Still one of the best debuts I can think of. One could have chosen any other movie from him for place 2 and 3 but

I went with The Banishment and Loveless. All masterpieces with great photography, well drawn characters and all leaving a great impression long after viewing.

image.thumb.jpeg.13f835b8d3c157a00f4d34934d9edb78.jpeg

Wong Kar-Wai:

its hard to find a director able to match the elegance and beauty of Wong Kar-Wai movies.

He´s surely a master of conveying sentiments in music and sound.

My three faves are Chungking Express, In the Mood for Love, 2046

image.thumb.jpeg.45184462203d2981b4e2267a6755b47c.jpeg

Denis Villeneuve:

Denis is surely one of the most versatile and accomplished filmmakers today. Yes Blade Runner 2046 and Dune are great movies but for me

his previous smaller budget movies,  Incendies, Enemy and Sicario are even better artistic efforts, especially Incendies which is still my number one from him.

@bossjon

Another great challenge that is right up my alley. I allowed myself to list four filmmakers as I can't possibly exclude any of the following geniuses.

Stanley Kubrick

1. A Clockwork Orange - Kubrick in a nutshell; visually stunning, funny, shocking and still very relevant.

2. Dr. Strangelove

3. 2001: A Space Odyssey

image.thumb.jpeg.e7c41a44f4cf2cc54e8ae2e449b385a7.jpeg

Sergio Leone

1. Once Upon A Time In The West - one of my top 3 favorite ever movies.

2. Once Upon A Time In America

3. The Good, The Bad And The Ugly

image.thumb.jpeg.88fa36328eb10074226e9484f8569a83.jpeg

Martin Scorsese

1. Goodfellas - another top 3 movie.

2. Raging Bull

3. Casino

Quentin Tarantino

1. Jackie Brown - QT's undisputed masterpiece.

2. Pulp Fiction

3. Inglourious Basterds

Challenge 11 (had to rush this photo before going on holiday)

T2:  Not much needs to be said about this really.  T1 is a great film but this just expands on everything from soundtrack to action to story.

The Dark Knight:  I love all three films but for me personally, BB is actually my least favourite so this sequel is easily superior.  I’ll go with the villain as the massive step up.

Blade Runner 2049: Might be a controversial view for some but while I appreciate the original for everything it is, I prefer the pacing on 2049.

Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back:  High quality plot twist and expanding on the story massively.

John Wick 2:  Just more of the same from the first but turned up to 11!

As for which film I want to see a sequel for… Really want that next Beetlejuice.  Could be turd, but just always wanted more of that character.

Next I want to feature the sadly already passed Satoshi Kon. As he has only done 4 Movies and 1 Series I have included them all (see below). He was an extremely talented director who created such great stories paired with stunning visuals. I rated all his wok with 10 points. My favorites would be Perfect Blue and Paranoia Agent (the Series).

I think he would have given us some more wonderful work if he had not died so early. Check these out if you have the chance.

The early loss of satoshi kon is beyond tragic.   Perfect blue and paranoia agent are towering works of art and paprika millennium and tokyo aren’t far behind.

thanks for showcasing them.

My favorite Director is Mr. David Lynch. The Greatest American Filmmaker of all time. He captures the happiness in the sadness , the beauty in the nightmare, the humor in the horror and paints that beautiful art all over the film medium.

My favorite film of all time is easily Mulholland DR. It’s a masterful mystery that few have truly solved. Even though most critics openly admit that they don’t understand what they watched or how the pieces fit together, the experience is something they will never forget.

My second favorite Director is Mr. Stanley Kubrick. Another example of art being painted on film. A filmmaker that constantly pushed the boundaries. His films cover all categories War, Romance, Mystery, Horror, Drama, Thrillers, Comedy, Action, and the greatest Science Fiction film ever made 2001 A Space Odyssey.

Next up is Mr. Paul Thomas Anderson. He is one of the few Directors that can capture chaos and present it as calm and controlled. In fact I believe he is probably the best WORKING Director we have. His films are never alike and always character driven. It’s also completely evident that he is a student of Kubrick and his films showcase that. The two that come to mind are the Master and the Phantom Thread. I believe you could place Stanley’s name on those 2 films and it wouldn’t surprise anyone. There will be blood is masterful and deserves a mention but I believe The Master to be his greatest achievement.

Very fun challenge, @bossjon!

I love silent films, so I'll highlight three of my favorite directors associated with that era.

IMG_1467.thumb.jpg.6f5794d4b0a58632fb86c2db6a2c0d7c.jpg

1. Buster Keaton; The General, Sherlock Jr., Our Hospitality. His movies all hold up today, and what amazes me is his imaginative vision at a time when there wasn't an existing film aesthetic to build on—he was creating the film aesthetic that everyone else would build on. Hard to pick just one favorite, but I would say Sherlock Jr. The effects Keaton designed for that film are amazing, and the comedy is perfect.

IMG_1468.thumb.jpg.79e06e1f2dbdaabab2575a01149f0e77.jpg

2. Charles Chaplin; The Gold Rush, City Lights, Modern Times. While I think Keaton was the more technical genius, and the better comic actor, Chaplin's films are sentimental and emotional in a way that makes each film more than just light entertainment. I can't pick a favorite, but I can share a memory of going to see The Gold Rush when I was a teenager. No, it wasn't the original release. ;) There was a restored classic theater in town, and it had a full organ, so occasionally they would show silent films with live organ accompaniment. The Gold Rush was the first silent film I'd ever seen live, and it completely captivated me. I had no idea what hit me.

IMG_1469.thumb.jpg.2593b06070eb28c6f01fcf5ec0c0e9d9.jpg

3. Fritz Lang, Metropolis, Dr. Mabuse, The Gambler, The Testament of Dr. Mabuse. Lang was another early visionary. Metropolis is such an enormous spectacle—the thousands of extras, the elaborate sets, the heights of melodrama, and sci-fi imagery that continues to inspire new vistas of storytelling. And I even like the Moroder version from 1984. :)

Great idea, @bossjon.

As I was picking out films for this challenge I realized that I need to branch out a bit. I don't have anything from Paul Thomas Anderson, Wes Anderson, any anime, very limited Kubrick, Lynch, etc. Perhaps that can be a goal for next year.

Anyway, as a result, I'll be sticking to some big names for this challenge.

Challenge #12

1. Steven Spielberg: Easily my favorite director and he has been capturing my imagination since I was a kid. Anything he does is a must-see for me. Jurassic Park remains my favorite of his.

MguOgFK.jpg

2. Denis Villeneuve: I love the way he tells a story but also how he directs the camera. All of his films have stunning visuals and a sense of "grandness". Dune is probably my favorite of his (though this may be recency bias).

B6xjn7w.jpg

3. John Hughes: Has anyone better captured the teenage experience? He also does such an excellent job of mixing comedy with poignant moments. It's hard for me to pick a favorite of his but I'll go with Uncle Buck for now.

If you ever do decide to branch out into the world of David Lynch I would like to recommend 2 titles to you my friend. Both have Criterion Releases and can be found for around 20$. Go for Mulholland DR. & Eraserhead. Definitely start out with MD before Eraserhead. Eraserhead is one of those films that almost all film institute’s highlight. It is to be watched in the dark and with the volume high. It is the definition of true Horror. But a different kind of Horror, there are no bloody murders, no madman chasing people, no gruesome scenes of torture. The horror is in the atmosphere and how each individual experience it differently.

Its also no secret that Eraserhead was also Stanley Kubrick’s favorite film. He would host parties at his home and share the film with his close friends. Another fun part of the Film is the discussion that follows. Many have tried to put the pieces together and lay out the meaning and David has said in multiple interviews that he enjoys reading peoples interpretations but not one person has hit the nail on the head as of yet.
