Your Top 10 Favorite Opening Title Sequences

Recommended Posts

Before the age of YT and free internet streaming, I often found myself popping movies in the dvd player just so I could enjoy their amazing opening sequences, sometimes rewinding dozens of times 'cause I just couldn't get enough of these miniature works of art.

For me, the greatest and most memorable title sequences are the ones that seemlessly blend visuals and sound while perfectly setting the tone of the movie.

Here are my top 10 in chronological order.

NORTH BY NORTHWEST (1959)

DR. NO (1962)

2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY (1968)

DIRTY HARRY (1971)

TAXI DRIVER (1976)

ALIEN (1979)

RAGING BULL (1980)

THE UNTOUCHABLES (1987)

JACKIE BROWN (1997)

CATCH ME IF YOU CAN (2002)

I'll give you the first ones that came to mind that I think nail this.

TERMINATOR 2: JUDGEMENT DAY (1991)

THE EXORCIST (1973)

SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE (1978)

THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY (1966)

INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM (1984)

T2 and Superman were also considered but I had to make tough choices as otherwise I’d have ended up with a top 30 at least 😅

There are so many other great title sequences… Watchmen, The Shining, Se7en. Very hard to settle on just a few.

Yeah, definitely.

I would've included some in your list like The Untouchables, North by Northwest, Dirty Harry and some of the Bond opening titles (I think the one for "Thunderball" along with Tom Jones' voice is one that I don't see mentioned often).

Thunderball is actually my favorite of all the Bond titles 👍😃

I went with Dr. No (my third favorite after TB and YOLT) since it was truly the groundbreaking one and also because it opens the movie proper.
