@Ronimous Nova announced the reason for the delay a while back. Production error with the discs requiring new 4k discs to be re-authored. Stuff like that takes time.

This set is only $18 on Target and it includes all the 6 discs that comes with the Nova edition. So they charge over $80 extra for 36 page booklet, wea steelbook, postcards and a slip. Sounds like a scam.

It's not a scam. It's just expensive. Some of the expense probably goes to Bob Peak's estate for the poster art used on the lenti. Some may go to Laurent Durieux for the steelbook art. And the production expense increases when the total run is in the hundreds, or even a few thousand, rather than the limitless factory production that Target sells. If the extra stuff isn't worth the expense to you, then nobody will think less of you for passing on this release. In general, it seems that prices are on the rise for a lot of premium retailers now, so eventually, many of us will be priced out of things that we might have bought a few years ago. But it'll be all right.

I think this is an extreme example, as you can find a less expensive amaray or steelbook for any premium edition. 17.99 is a crazy cheap price for a 6 disc edition (including 4k) of any movie, let alone a classic like this. Clearly cutting losses on overstock here.

They must have made a buhzillion of this set. I bought it a couple years ago as an Amazon Black Friday special for $10—and here it is, still widely available. It is a beautiful set, certainly, and an unbelievable price.

I believe this particular edition is so expensive because it has 4 discs & I believe either 2 or all disc are 4K I can't remember off the top of my head, but the 4k ballooned the price.

Regards the expense raised by others, yes they are costly at first blush, but I don’t think Nova are testing the waters or being cheeky, it just is what it is to give them some margin.  If they were testing waters, both editions are still freely available on their site today which would tell them it might have been a misstep.
 

£75 is a lower end ‘normal priced slip’ mark up price on fleabay and more popular new slips in the early hundreds, so going direct made sense  at preorder stage - and I really want that Durieux steel 😍

I should have clarified for readers that I dilly dallied on the GB too long, then had to go direct. The release did get that unfortunate delay, but once in the hands of your hub master he/she will get in touch with you by pm to arrange forward transfer 👍

i take it you have seen this as you would be american hub which is john.

which will effect ALL american gbs that are hub.

as this one is.

I understand and am sympathetic.  I think the site should probably take over some of these duties in order to fulfill commitments and money paid up months ago.

then you are on the wrong site, john is the owner all the staff of the hubs give there time for free and there are no backups to any of the staff at the hubs at all.

im more worried for his health personally.

but most of us understand how it works here.

Hi @Ronimous I understand you are fairly new here so I will try to explain. We asked members to pay because we had to pay the retailer. It's normal that we pay in advance. In this case the release was delayed more than anticipated by the disc issues. As of today our USA hub has not received any copies from Nova (but they are on the way). 

 

The other staff have stepped up and are taking over as many duties as we can, but we are a small team of volunteers from different parts of the world and for some things there is just no backup possible. For example, I cannot leave my family & job and drive half-way across the country to John's house so I can pack and send packages to members. It's just not possible. Those members who have been around longer know they sometimes need to have patience and can trust us, as they have over and over again. So please understand we are doing all we can and things will get back to normal over time.
