DC Extended Universe [DCEU]

Talk about :

The DC Extended Universe (DCEU) is an American media franchise and shared universe that is centered on a series of superhero films, distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, based on characters that appear in publications by DC Comics. The shared universe, much like the original DC Universe in comic books, was established by crossing over common plot elements, settings, cast, and characters. The films have been in production since 2011 and in that time Warner Bros. has distributed four films with more than ten in various stages of production. The series has grossed over $2.7 billion at the global box office, currently making it the nineteenth highest-grossing film franchise.

DC Films Exec Says New Plan Is To “Make The Movies Fun”

Last spring, following the brutal reception to “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” and before “Suicide Squad” would also be mauled by critics, DC Films’ Geoff Johns made it clear change was on the way. The exec promised that future films would feature more “hope and optimism,” and it’s a message he’s doubling down on in the wake of the critical and commercial success of “Wonder Woman.”

Speaking with The Wrap, Johns made clear that as the DCEU continues, they are going to lift the Zack Snyder gloom that covered early installments in the series. “[The goal is to] get to the essence of the character and make the movies fun. Just make sure that the characters are the characters with heart, humor, hope, heroics, and optimism at the base,” he said.

It’s an admirable goal, but it’s one that should also be coupled with a more careful approach to the development process. Thus far, DC Films still feels a bit like its flailing around, compared to the well-oiled machine over at Marvel. With numerous projects in the works, it can often seem that DC is being reactive rather than honing a vision and being proactive. However, perhaps this new philosophy is the first step in a makeover of what DC Films is all about.

News :

Wonder Woman 2

Elena Anaya has revealed to The Verge that she’s contracted for one more DC movie, meaning Dr. Poison could resurface at any moment.

What do you know about Dr. Maru’s future? Gal Gadot and Patty Jenkins are contracted for a second Wonder Woman movie. Are you?

Yes yes yes. But I have no answer for that. As you know, when these movies are made, they ask you basically to marry them for the rest of your life. [Laughs] I’d be so happy to be back, to be able to be evil again. It’s so good, it’s so fantastic.

New too :

Justice League

Kiersey Clemons has revealed to Modeliste Magazine that she has a brief cameo in Justice League as Iris West. Her “extravagant” scene with Barry Allen was filmed in London.

This November, I’m making a cameo in Justice League as Iris West and it’s the first time that you meet her before we get to see her in The Flash with Ezra Miller. It was my first time doing something so extravagant like that. We filmed in London and that’s one of my favorite places.

Matt Reeves talks Hitchcockian approach to Batman

Earlier this year it was announced that DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES (and the upcoming sequel) director Matt Reeves would be helming the solo Batman movie after Ben Affleck decided to step down. He’s a solid choice for the gig, but some were hoping Warner Bros. would pick a director with, say, "gritter" roots. During an interview, however, he mentioned one particular influence that may make you realize he’s the perfect choice to take on the Bat.

While speaking with CNET Reeves was asked about his approach to the upcoming BATMAN movie, and he spoke about how important it is for him to tell a story that immerses you into the perspective of the main character – something he picked up watching the films of none other than Alfred Hitchcock:

For me, point of view is really important. I want to make sure you are experiencing something from the perspective of the main character in the story. I'm a huge Hitchcock fan -- I like the idea of being immersed in that perspective. Movies for me are about empathy. The idea is to make you, the audience, feel what the character feels.

In a wide-ranging interview with Variety, Geoff Johns stated that Warner Bros. has big plans in store for DC’s roster of female heroes, in the wake of Wonder Woman’s success:

We’ve got a lot of plans for our female characters just because they’re great characters. There are many wonderful elements to the DC Universe, and one of them is that we have the best female characters, heroes and villains, in the world. No one is going to beat Wonder Woman and Batgirl and Harley Quinn.

MEH!

Must admit the critics have kind of annoyed me when it comes to the DC films. Virtually all of them are the same, its too dark, its too miserable, its too depressing blah blah blah. They were 90% of the time comparing them to the Marvel films. DC and Marvel ARE different in tone and style. DC has always been darker, more adult and yes more depressing. The critics just wanted Marvel films with a DC badge. I really hope DC don't brighten them up too much.

I really did enjoy the films so far, and while not masterpieces they have made some quality entertainment and for the first time got the characters right "or at least what I wanted for the character" Man of Steel was brilliant, but you could definitely tell Nolan had input. How would the world really act and respond if an alien came to earth who is basically in our terms indestructible. It was a great idea and it worked out well on film, making it easily the best Superman film so far. It was well cast, well shot, zipped along and had some stunning effects. BvS I felt was a bit of mess structure wise. I would have liked for it to have just been Batman and Superman, and kept the other superhero's out the mix. I did like the film outside of that. I liked the idea of Wayne thinking he was the only man smart enough to take on Superman and liked that he saw the downside of the aliens powers. I LOVED Affleck in the role, a role the fan boys and silly little female Bale worshippers took to the internet in droves to cry their hated at his casting. He NAILED it, he was every part the character and played the Dark Knight as written in earlier darker Millar books. I did feel the film dragged on and had too many loose ends where you could tell they were building to the Justice League, but I would have preferred they did the other characters in solo films or in a JL origins film, rather than BvS.

I LOVED the first hour of Suicide Squad, it was well acted, well put together, perfect cast and had a SUPERB soundtrack. For me it got the tone of the comic I still buy religiously absolutely perfect, and then there was Harley Quinn, who DC got 100% on game. Robbie was stunning and obviously read some of the modern comics, her mannerisms were spot on, her attitude superb and her approch just flawless. You're supposed to perv over her, she is a sex object, thats the whole point of the character, you want her only she will cut your throat before you get her. Of all the DC film characters so far shes the one they got spot on in every single way and filmed her brilliantly. It didn't go unnoticed by critics many of whom praised Robbie so its understanable DC quickly green lit a HQ solo outing. The finale was the only let down, with its weak story, and fairly poor effects. As a whole its a good film let down by a terrible finish.

Wonder Woman, well what is there to say other than perfect. Not a masterpiece, but a stunning film, that doesn't shy away from her sexuality but throws feminism into the mix to make a great script that works for a slightly out of date character. Great direction, great cast, good story, She really to this point is the DC Saviour. I hope Marvel take note, Female hero's DO make money!

Does not surprise me. Despite what anyone says/thinks about the recent DC movies, it's been far from a smooth journey. For me they are trying to play catch up with Marvel too quickly and failing fast.

It doesn't help when Marvel run movies & TV shows that tie in, and reference one another whilst maintaining the casts. DC on the other hand, are casting different actors across the board in all their shows & movies.

One complaint about HQ... Her accent. It's pretty awful throughout the whole movie. One sec she's NewYork, then she's Aussie. Other than that very good performance. Head & shoulders above Jared Leto's attempt.
