Greatest Movie Scenes/Music Combos

A great soundtrack can often elevate an average movie.
A great scene accompanied by great music often makes for an unforgettable experience.

Here are my top choices for what I consider the greatest examples in cinema.
Feel free to share yours.

1. Once Upon A Time In The West - Harmonica vs. Frank (Sergio Leone / Ennio Morricone)

The undisputed king. The most perfect marriage of sound and vision ever committed to celluloid. Sergio Leone’s ballet of death, meticulously orchestrated to the sound of Ennio Morricone’s unforgettable ‘Man With A Harmonica’.

Never fails to send shivers down my spine.

2. 2001: A Space Odyssey - The space station (Stanley Kubrick / Johann Strauss II)

3. Blade Runner - Opening scene (Ridley Scott / Vangelis)

4. Once Upon A Time In America - Death of Dominic (Sergio Leone / Ennio Morricone)

5. On Her Majesty’s Secret Service - Ski chase (Peter Hunt / John Barry)

6. Kill Bill Vol 1 - The Bride vs. O-Ren Ishii (Quentin Tarantino / Santa Esmeralda’s “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood”)

7. The Good, The Bad And The Ugly - Final Duel (Sergio Leone / Ennio Morricone)

8. Star Wars Saga -  practically every scene that features Darth Vader and the Imperial March (George Lucas & Co. / John Williams)

Just exposition of the scenery and atmosphere but with the wonderful soundtrack by Kenji Kawai:

Makes me want to Drive around at night: Nightcall by Kavinsky

Hans Zimmer - ...to die for

Bob Dylan - The times are a changin' beautiful intro scene

Watchmen had awesome use of music !

Besides the opening scene I particularly like the first fight sequence with Nat King Cole’s “Unforgettable” playing in the background. A very unique choice that paid off beautifully.
