The infamous Turbine Media is releasing yet another world premiere on BD and UHD with David Cronenbergs 1996 movie "Crash". The release will have two different cover variants, one they named modern (in some shops called "Cover A"), showing the legs of the protagonist and a Highway between them; this is a newly commissioned drawing (inspired by one of the movie posters). The other named classic (and in some shops "Cover B") shows one of the movie poster motives; the later will be limited to 500 individually numbered copies, the former has no information on limitation. However, the modern cover will also come in two configurations, either BD and DVD (as same as the classic cover) or BD and UHD. The movie was never before released on HD, and Turbine did a 4k sampling from the original negatives together with David Cronenberg and DoP Peter Suschitzky. Also, it features the US NC-17 version, instead of the R-Rated cut version, which was formally indexed as media harmful to minors, with the possibility of confiscation. The movie will come with a lot of bonus material, some of which are done exclusively for this release, as well as a 40-paged booklet which unfortunately will be only featuring German language.

In Germany, Turbine is pretty famous for it's battles against our BPjM - a federal agency that will censor or confiscate movies in Germany if they are deemed to violent. As the social standards are not the same as they used to be in the 80s or earlier, Turbine uses legal ways to force re-evaluation of such movies (including titles like the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Last House on the Left, Mark of the Devil, or Crying Freeman that Turbine already managed to get re-evaluated and released in Germany). With all their titles they strive to be the first to release them in Germany (on Blu-ray) all together or at least in the longest/uncut version, and often they are also the first to do so, worldwide.

Crash (1996) is a Cronenberg movie based on a novel by James Graham, portraying a group of people who take sexual pleasures from car accidents. It was produced in the UK and started a controversy. It also won the "Special Jury Prize" at the Cannes Film Festival, and was a such a controversial choice that some jury members abstained very passionately. The award has never been awarded since. The US NC-17 version is not featuring more violence but rather more graphical sex scenes. Here's a trailer:
