Marcellus' former slave Demetrius seeks to prevent this, and catches the eye of Messalina, wife to Caligula's uncle Claudius. Messalina tempts Demetrius, he winds up fighting in the arena, and wavers in his faith.

One night, young David McLean sees a spaceship crash into a nearby sandpit. His father goes to investigate, but comes back changed. Where once he was cheerful and affectionate, he's now sullen and snarlingly rude. Others fall into the sandpit and begin acting like him: cold, ill-tempered and conspiratorial. David knows that aliens are taking over the bodies of humans, but he'll soon discover there have been far more of these terrible thefts than he could have imagined. The young doom-monger finds some serious help in a lady doctor and a brilliant astronomer. Soon they meet the aliens: green creatures with insect-like eyes. These beings prove to be slaves to their leader: a large, silent head with ceaselessly shifting eyes and two tentacles on either side, each of which branches off into three smaller tentacles. It's up to the redoubtable earth trio to stop its evil plans.

This movie sounds awesome! How's the restoration, did you watch the BD?

 

Been on a 50's Sci-Fi kick, watched When Worlds Collide a few days ago. Definitely going to add it to my watchlist... thanks @Veum!

The U.S.S. Enterprise travels to the Klingon Empire, where Captain Picard is to attend the installation of Gowron, the new Leader of the High Council. En route, the starship is intercepted by the Klingon ship bearing Gowron, who informs Picard that the heirs to the Duras family is amassing a rebel faction, and plotting civil war against the Empire. Follow Picard and Lieutenant Worf as they fight to end a Klingon Civil War, and redeem Worf's family name. "Redemption" is another epic 2-part Star Trek: The Next Generation episode re-edited as a feature-length presentation which was the Season Four finale and Season Five premiere.

Man of the West (1958)

 

On his way to hire a schoolteacher, a homesteader is left a hundred miles from anywhere when the train he is on is robbed. With him are an attractive dancehall girl and an untrustworthy gambler and he decides to get shelter nearby from outlaw relatives he used to run with. They don't trust him and he loathes them but they decide he can help them with one last bank job.

You may not know this film, but I saw it last night at the cinema, and I'm going to recommend it to you. It's called "Racing Bull" by a certain Martin Scorsese.

 

 

It's a 4K re-release, seen at night in a small multiplex dedicated mainly to international and auteur cinema. A rainy, hot night where an impromptu walk pushed me there.

 

The music, in black and white, the grain on screen, Jake LaMotta frantically punching someone's face, sweat in the air, and blood; the music, and his conversations with Joe Pesci, his brother, like two raging bulls going through life. The fight scene in "Copacabana" is the scene of someone who goes crazy at the first time, without needing much, and without limits in his reaction. Like a bull. We have all seen people like that in our lives, people we should - wisely - stay away from.

 

The way Scorsese portrays life in the Bronx in those years is not descriptive, it's on the street; you go with them, you feel it. And I've never been to the Bronx, or to the USA, but I don't have to, because Scorsese's Bronx is a rounded world of street people, accessible, real, complete, and yet simple. Black and white. And far from today's self-censorship, it's a Bronx, and it's a bull, and it's a marriage, and friendships, and families... raw, yes, raw. The good and the bad together on a daily basis.

 

Raw and poetic, realistic and distant. A masterpiece. 

 

By the way, hopefully someone will make a collector's edition sometime, and use this awesome poster from its re-release.

As a bargaining chip, Dillon helps two sons of Apache chief Geronimo out of the fort stockade and offers them in trade. Dillon is aided by an Army scout, Chalk Brighton (Richard Kiley).

Saw Dr. Caligari yesterday. Freaking LOVED it. I loved the artistic set design and the dialogue. All the actors nailed their roles and really made the atmosphere ooze with insanity. Now I'm searching out Stephen Sayadian's other work. Specifically Nightdreams.
