but We haven’t seen the first film. My sister told me she didn’t enjoy it & often time me & her opinion match on horror films so I put that one on the bottom of my to watch list. Have you had a chance to view the other films & if so did you enjoy them?

Yes I enjoyed the 1st Annabelle & have enjoyed all of them!

 

However I do enjoy The Conjuring series more!

Yeah I enjoy a little film history from time to time. Gives you more insight & perspective on certain films & genres. I’ll post more videos if I think they’re worth watching. If there was a scale to measure comfort of gore by percentages I’ll say I’m at about 80% okay with gore. If the story & the acting is solid I’m fine with it, but if I’m watching a movie & it is only offering me gore, guts, & blood I don’t enjoy it as much. I don’t often enjoy movies that only exist to push gore extremes. 

 

This movie is a big example of no story just blood & guts for the sake of it.

Out of all of Stephen King’s book to movie adaptations Gerald’s Game may have just became my favorite! On the surface the movie appears to be just a captivity movie centered around a couple who are trying to rekindle their fire for each other, but as the movie moves along you realize that it’s actually presenting something more layered. This movie has to relay heavy on the actors ability to convey the seriousness of the situation & unsurprisingly our leads carry the movie in spades.
 

Carla Gugino is an actress that I’m always delighted to see in films, she is usually always good & no matter the quality of the film she is in she manages to be one of a movie’s positives. In Gerald’s Game she is absolutely fantastic  & I believe this is her best work to date. I don’t know if she was nominated for any awards the year this film was released. If not, Carla most certainly should have been. Her character is apart of a rare extreme situation & as an actor I’m pretty sure it’s challenging to stay at that level, and she did very impressively.

 

Bruce Greenwood is another actor who I always find pleasure in seeing in films, he like Gugino usually always is able to carry his own weight in the films he is in no matter how big or small the role. This movie has his character in a different perspective then Carla’s so as an actor his responsibilities are different & he handles them well. He is a veteran actor who is able to bring a level of authenticity to his characters & you as a viewer can expect no difference here. Oh and another take away is that he is 63 years old & looks to be in wonderful shape! 

The Director

 

Mike Flanagan is the director & I wasn’t familiar with his past work, but now that I’ve seen this I’m definitely going to put time aside to find out how consistent he is as a director. From this movie I get the impression he understands what makes for a good Horror Thriller. He presented characters that I could relate to & in doing so once the story began to unfold I was tense and on the edge of my seat the rest of the way through the film. 
 

Gerald’s Game isn’t about cheap jump scares, it’s a movie that ask the questions of can we as humans get out of our own way so that we can grow to become something better. What will it take to get you out of your comfort zone to discover hidden truths about yourself that you may have kept tucked away. Time will tell if Gerald’s Game becomes my absolute favorite Stephen King movie. As of right now it’s chances are very strong.

Her husband-to-be happens to be the outlaw Billy the Kid, who has finally gone straight. But just when poor Billy is ready to settle down and get married, he discovers that his bride's "uncle" is actually a very nasty vampire. Seems it's time for more bullets - silver bullets, that is! John Carradine leads the mostly unknown cast with an elegant take on Dracula.

The Wolfman (1941)  

 

"Even a man who is pure in heart and says his prayers by night, may become a wolf when the wolfbane blooms and the Autumn moon is bright."

 

 After learning of the death of his brother, Larry Talbot (Lon Chaney, Jr.) returns to his ancestral home in Llanwelly, Wales to reconcile with his estranged father, Sir John Talbot (Claude Rains). While there, Larry becomes romantically interested in a local girl named Gwen Conliffe (Evelyn Ankers), who runs an antique shop. As a pretext to converse with her, he purchases a silver-headed walking stick decorated with a wolf. Gwen tells him that it represents a werewolf (which she defines as a man who changes into a wolf "at certain times of the year.")

Throughout the film, various villagers recite a poem, whenever the subject of werewolves comes up:

Even a man who is pure in heart
and says his prayers by night
may become a wolf when the wolfbane blooms
and the autumn moon is bright.
That night, Larry attempts to rescue Gwen's friend Jenny from what he believes to be a sudden wolf attack. He kills the beast with his new walking stick, but is bitten on the chest in the process. A gypsy fortuneteller named Maleva (Maria Ouspenskaya) reveals to Larry that the animal which bit him was actually her son Bela (Béla Lugosi) in the form of a wolf. She also reveals that Larry will transform into a wolf as well since anyone who is bitten by a werewolf and lives will turn into one themselves.

Talbot transforms into a wolf-like creature and stalks the village, first killing the local gravedigger. Talbot retains vague memories of being a werewolf and wanting to kill, and continually struggles to overcome his condition. He is finally bludgeoned to death by his father with his own silver walking stick after attacking Gwen. Sir John Talbot watches in horror as the werewolf transforms into his son's human form as the local police arrive on the scene.

After a series of scientific experiments directed toward freeing the inner man and controlling personalities, the kindly, generous Dr Henry Jekyll succeeds in freeing his own alter ego, Edward Hyde, a sadistic, evil creature whose pleasure is  murder.

In the early 20th Century a village experienced a series of inexplicable murders. The perpetrator of these deaths was a being so repulsive that she transformed the onlooker using the power of her deadly stare. A brilliant but deranged neurosurgeon becomes obsessively fixated on a judge's daughter who in no way wants him. With the help of an escaped criminal whose face he has surgically deformed, the mad man lures her, her father, and her fiance to his isolated castle-like home, where he has created a torture chamber in his cellar using devices from the stories of Edgar Allen Poe - with whose works he is also obsessed - with the intent of torturing them for having "tortured" him.

9/15 - *The devil & Daniel Webster (1941)  A GREAT MOTION PICTURE DARES TO BE DIFFERENT!

Farmer Jabez Stone, about to lose his land, agrees to sell his soul to the devil, known as Mr. scratch, who gives Jabez seven years to enjoy the fruits of his sale before he collects. Over time, Jabez pays off his debts and helps many neighborhood farmers, then he becomes an advocate for the upstanding Se. Daniel Webster. When Jabez's contract with Mr. scratch concludes, he desperately turns to Webster to represent him in a trial for his soul.

9/16- Daybreakers (2009)  IN 2019, THE MOST PRECIOUS NATURAL RESOURCE… IS US. In the year 2019, a plague has transformed almost every human into vampires. Faced with a dwindling blood supply, the fractured dominant race plots their survival; meanwhile, a researcher works with a covert band of vampires on a way to save humankind.

9/18 - *The Night Stalker (1972)  Wisecracking reporter Carl Kolchak investigates a string of gruesome murders in Las Vegas. It seems that each victim has been bitten in the neck and drained of all their blood. Kolchak is sure that it is a vampire. He’s hot on the trail, but nobody believes him. His editor thinks he’s nuts and the police think he’s a hindrance in the investigation, so Kolchak takes matters into his own hand.

9/19 - *Vampire Circus (1972)  HUMAN FANGS RIPPING THROATS – NO SAWDUST CAN SOAK UP THE TORRENT OF BLOOD! After a spate of murders, the villagers of Schtettel kill the depraved perpetrator, Count Mitterhaus. Fifteen years later the Circus of Nights appeared in the plague-ridden village and its performers include Mitterhouse’s mistress, children and cousins. They have come to Schtettel to fulfill the Count’s last words, an evil, vicious curse of death and destruction on those who participated in his impaling. Once hounded from his castle by outraged villagers for creating a monstrous living being, Baron Frankenstein returns to Karlstaad. High in the mountains they stumble on the body of the creature, perfectly preserved in the ice. He is brought back to life with the help of the hypnotist Zoltan who now controls the creature. Can Frankenstein break Zoltan’s hypnotic spell that incites the monster to commit these horrific murders or will Zoltan induce the creature to destroy its creator?

9/21 -  Dr. Jekyll and Sister Hyde (1971)   In foggy London Dr Jekyll experiments on newly deceased women determined to discover an elixir for immortal life. Success enables his spectacular transformation into the beautiful but psychotic Sister Hyde who stalks the dark alleys of Whitechapel for young, innocent, female victims, ensuring continuation of the bloodstained research. With each transformation Sister Hyde becomes the more dominant personality, determined to eventually suppress the frail, ineffectual Dr Jekyll forever.

9/22 - Blood From The Mummy’s Tomb (1971)  A SEVERED HAND BECKONS FROM AN OPEN GRAVE!
Two Egyptologists, Professor Fuchs and Corbeck, are instrumental in unleashing unmitigated horror by bringing back to England the mummified body of Tara, the Egyptian Queen of Darkness. Fuchs’s daughter becomes involved in a series of macabre and terrifying incidents, powerless against the forces of darkness, directed by Corbeck, that are taking possession of her body and soul to fulfill the ancient prophesy that Queen Tara will be resurrected to continue her reign of unspeakable evil.

9/24 - The Incredible Shrinking Man (1957)   A FASCINATING ADVENTURE INTO THE UNKNOWN!
While on a boating trip, Scott Carey is exposed to a radioactive cloud. Nothing seems amiss at first, but several months later Scott realizes that he’s shrunk in height by several inches. He sees a doctor, who admits that he’s baffled. As Scott continues to shrink, decreasing to three feet tall, he becomes bitter, and lashes out at his wife, Louise. He begins to fear a cure will never be found – since even as he becomes a national sensation, he’s still shrinking.

9/25 - *Hands of the Ripper (1971)   THE HANDS OF JACK THE RIPPER LIVE AGAIN…
A series of murders occur that mirror those committed by the Whitechapel Ripper. Through his experiments with psychoanalysis Dr Pritchard discovers a deadly violence in one of his young female patients. As he delves into the recesses of her mind he uncovers that Anna is possessed by her dead father’s spirit, willing her to commit acts of gruesome savagery over which she has no control. But the most chilling revelation of all is the identity of her father: Jack the Ripper himself.

As a rash of deaths afflicts the village, Gustav the head of Puritan group leads his men to seek out and destroy the pestilence. One of his twin nieces has become inflicted with the witchcraft but Gustav’s zeal and venom has trapped the innocent Maria, threatening her with a tortuous execution, whilst Frieda remains free to continue her orgy of evil.

In the heart of Styria the Karnstein Family, even after their mortal deaths, rise from their tombs spreading evil in the countryside in their lust for fresh blood. Baron Hartog whose family are all victims of Karnstein vampirism, opens their graves and drives a stake through their diabolical hearts. One grave he cannot locate is that of the legendary beautiful Mircalla Karnstein. Years of peace follow that grisly night until Mircalla reappears to avenge her family’s decimation and satisfy her desire for blood.

9/29 - *Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978)  FROM DEEP SPACE… THE SEED IS PLANTED… TERROR GROWS
The first remake of the paranoid infiltration classic moves the setting for the invasion, from a small town to the city of San Francisco and starts as Matthew Bennell notices that several of his friends are complaining that their close relatives are in some way different. When questioned later they themselves seem changed, as they deny everything or make lame excuses. As the invaders increase in number they become more open and Bennell, who has by now witnessed an attempted “replacement”, realises that he and his friends must escape or suffer the same fate. But who can he trust to help him and who has already been snatched?

9/30 -*Black Friday (1940)  A REIGN OF HORROR… A MAN-MADE MONSTER ON THE LOOSE!
When his friend Professor Kingsely (Ridges) is at deaths door, brain surgeon Dr. Sovac (Karloff) saves his life by means of an illegal operation that transplants part of injured gangster Red Cannon’s brain. Unfortunately, the operation has a disasterous Jeckll and Hyde side effect and under certain conditions the persona of Cannon emerges. Sovac soon learns of the duel personality and of half a million dollars the gangster has hidden away. He attempts to find the money through the manipulation of his friend, an attempt that brings Kingsley closer to madness as he alternates between a meek professor of english and a brutal gangster out for murderous revenge on those who tried to kill him.

Anna Valerious reveals that Dracula has formed an unholy alliance with Dr. Frankenstein’s monster and is hell-bent on exacting a centuries-old curse on her family.

10/7 - Bram Stoker's DRACULA (1992)  LOVE NEVER DIES.
When Dracula leaves the captive Jonathan Harker and Transylvania for London in search of Mina Harker—the reincarnation of Dracula’s long-dead wife, Elisabeta—obsessed vampire hunter Dr. Van Helsing sets out to end the madness.

10/8 - *Hercules in the Haunted World (1961)  AN ALL NEW HEIGHT IN FRIGHT AND MIGHT!
Upon his return from battle in the previous film, the great warrior Hercules learns that his lover, Deianira, has lost her senses. According of the oracle Medea, Deianira’s only hope is the Stone of Forgetfulness which lies deep in the realm of Hades. Hercules, with two companions, Theseus and Telemachus, embarks on a dangerous quest for the stone, while he is unaware that Deianira’s guardian, King Lico, is the one responsible for her condition and plots to have the girl for himself as his bride upon her revival.

But Isobel, wife of one of the explorers, resembles the beautiful princess, forcing the speechless and tormented monster to defy commands and abduct Isobel to an unknown fate.

10/11 - Witchfinder General (1968)  HE’LL HANG, BURN, AND MUTILATE YOU. HE’S THE WITCHFINDER GENERAL!
England is torn in civil strife as the Royalists battle the Parliamentary Party for control. This conflict distracts people from rational thought and allows unscrupulous men to gain local power by exploiting village superstitions. One of these men is Matthew Hopkins, who tours the land offering his services as a persecutor of witches.

10/12 - The Mummy's Hand (1940)  THE TOMB OF A THOUSAND TERRORS!
A couple of young, out-of-work archaeologists in Egypt discover evidence of the burial place of the ancient Egyptian princess Ananka. After receiving funding from an eccentric magician and his beautiful daughter, they set out into the desert only to be terrorized by a sinister high priest and the living mummy Kharis who are the guardians of Ananka’s tomb.

10/13 - Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948)   MORE HOWLS THAN YOU CAN SHAKE A SHIVER AT!!!
Two hapless freight handlers find themselves encountering Dracula, the Frankenstein Monster and the Wolf Man.

10/14 - The Witches (1966)  A STRANGER IN A TOWN THAT HAS LOST ITS MIND …IF SHE’S NOT CAREFUL, SHE MAY LOSE HER’S TOO!
Following a nervous breakdown, Gwen takes up the job of head teacher in the small village of Haddaby. There she can benefit from the tranquility and peace, enabling her to recover fully. But under the facade of idyllic country life she slowly unearths the frightening reality of village life in which the inhabitants are followers of a menacing satanic cult with the power to inflict indiscriminate evil and death if crossed.

10/15 - The Invisible Man (1933)  CARL LAEMMLE PRESENTS H. G. WELLS’S FANTASTIC SENSATION
Working in Dr. Cranley’s laboratory, scientist Jack Griffin was always given the latitude to conduct some of his own experiments. His sudden departure, however, has Cranley’s daughter Flora worried about him. Griffin has taken a room at the nearby Lion’s Head Inn, hoping to reverse an experiment he conducted on himself that made him invisible. But the experimental drug has also warped his mind, making him aggressive and dangerous. He’s prepared to do whatever it takes to restore his appearance.

10/16 - Frankenstein Meets the Wolfman (1943)  Graverobbers open the grave of the Wolfman and awake him. He doesn’t like the idea of being immortal and killing people when the moon is full, so he tries to find Dr. Frankenstein, in the hopes that the Dr. can cure him, but Frankenstein is dead and only his Monster is alive and this one wants to live, not to die like the Wolfman.

10/17 - Dracula's Daughter (1936)  SHE GIVES YOU THAT WEIRD FEELING
A countess from Transylvania seeks a psychiatrist’s help to cure her vampiric cravings.

10/18 - *The Mad Doctor of Market Street (1942)  GENIUS – OR FIEND?
A fugitive doctor (Lionel Atwill) tries to raise the dead for South Sea Islanders.

10/19 - *Annabelle Comes Home (2019)  POSSESS THEM ALL
Determined to keep Annabelle from wreaking more havoc, demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren bring the possessed doll to the locked artifacts room in their home, placing her “safely” behind sacred glass and enlisting a priest’s holy blessing. But an unholy night of horror awaits as Annabelle awakens the evil spirits in the room, who all set their sights on a new target—the Warrens’ ten-year-old daughter, Judy, and her friends.

10/31 - The Wolfman (1941)   "Even a man who is pure in heart and says his prayers by night, may become a wolf when the wolfbane blooms and the Autumn moon is bright."

 After learning of the death of his brother, Larry Talbot (Lon Chaney, Jr.) returns to his ancestral home in Llanwelly, Wales to reconcile with his estranged father, Sir John Talbot (Claude Rains). While there, Larry becomes romantically interested in a local girl named Gwen Conliffe (Evelyn Ankers), who runs an antique shop. As a pretext to converse with her, he purchases a silver-headed walking stick decorated with a wolf. Gwen tells him that it represents a werewolf (which she defines as a man who changes into a wolf "at certain times of the year.")

Throughout the film, various villagers recite a poem, whenever the subject of werewolves comes up:

Even a man who is pure in heart
and says his prayers by night
may become a wolf when the wolfbane blooms
and the autumn moon is bright.
That night, Larry attempts to rescue Gwen's friend Jenny from what he believes to be a sudden wolf attack. He kills the beast with his new walking stick, but is bitten on the chest in the process. A gypsy fortuneteller named Maleva (Maria Ouspenskaya) reveals to Larry that the animal which bit him was actually her son Bela (Béla Lugosi) in the form of a wolf. She also reveals that Larry will transform into a wolf as well since anyone who is bitten by a werewolf and lives will turn into one themselves.

Talbot transforms into a wolf-like creature and stalks the village, first killing the local gravedigger. Talbot retains vague memories of being a werewolf and wanting to kill, and continually struggles to overcome his condition. He is finally bludgeoned to death by his father with his own silver walking stick after attacking Gwen. Sir John Talbot watches in horror as the werewolf transforms into his son's human form as the local police arrive on the scene.
