  9. Synopsis: Zac Hobson (Bruno Lawrence, As Time Goes By), a scientist working on a pioneering energy project, wakes up one morning to find that the technology has malfunctioned, leaving him as seemingly the only man left on earth. As Zac wanders the deserted city of Hamilton, New Zealand, hoping to find some remnant of life besides himself, his mind begins to disintegrate until fantasy and reality blur together in a heady, terrifying cocktail. Directed by Geoff Murphy (Under Siege 2, Freejack) and adapted from the 1982 novel of the same name, The Quiet Earth has attained cult status as one of the most distinctive post-apocalyptic sci-fi movies of the 1980s. By turns haunting, surreal and inscrutable, the film asks questions about humankind's insatiable appetite for destruction that are arguably as prescient today as they were at the time of its release thirty years ago. Intrigued, Emanuelle and friends travel deep into the Amazon jungle, where they find that the supposedly extinct tribe of cannibals is still very much alive, and Emanuelle and her party are not welcome visitors. The film's original soundtrack features Italian singer and composer Nico Fidenco's hit "Make Love on the Wing". Also included is an excellent instrumental version of the song. (A third, very good version also appears on the soundtrack Fidenco created for Marino Girolami's Zombi Holocaust). 13. They’re big. They’re bad. They scuttle along in caverns miles beneath the Earth – until an earthquake opens paths to the surface. Now, these monsters of genus Arachnida are invading our world with deadly force! With top special effects co-designed by King Kong’s Willis O’Brien, The Black Scorpion is horror with a sting more lethal than the king-sized ants that overran Los Angeles’ sewers in the classic Them! Can humankind survive these invincible juggernauts? That fate rests on the shoulders of Hank Scott (1950s monster-movie stalwart Richard Denning) as the creatures rip a train from its track, snatch a helicopter from the sky and, in the film’s most gripping sequence, battle each other in their subterranean lair. Watch out!
  14. Synopsis: The late great Wes Craven (Scream) planned to produce the third in his classic The Hills Have Eyes franchise and let his son Jonathan take the directorial reigns but a last minute title change gave us Mind Ripper instead of The Hills Have Eyes III. Synopsis: It took four years after the success of Umberto Lenzi's classic gut-ripper Cannibal Ferrox for the Italian nasty native film to make a comeback and the first frightener to crawl out of the jungle squalor was Amazonia, also known as White Slave. Telling of a frequently naked western blonde (played by the gorgeous grindhouse sex symbol Elvire Audrey) who is captured, stripped and tormented by a group of jungle headhunters, Amazonia is perfectly fitting with the sleaze and schlock that this torrid trend became known for.
